throttle sticking?

well i was on the parkway and when i came off there was a red light so i started to slow down but when i was at like 20 my normal brake pressure did not seem to work... the car wanted to keep going..

i was at the light and the car was reving liike if you have your foot on the brakes and your holding down the gas pedal....

i through it in neutral and it was like i was flooring the gas...

this finally stopped when i got to class

but what could be the reason... its like 25F here

could it be my fluid

i actually just had this happen and its -15C when it happened...i think for me it was my block heater cord ...i just pulled it out and when i popped the hood it was laying across the throttle body....it hasnt stuck since i moved the cord

vacuum leak....check to make sure the bellows tube is on the manifold and tb really well

+1 on the vacuum leak. I suppose there's an outside chance that it could be a faulty AIS motor, but I think there's a check engine code for when that happens.

If it's intermittent like that, start the car (hopefully it's idling normally) and go around wiggling vacuum lines. If you've got a cracked one, wiggling them will make the idle jump or you'll even hear the hissing of air entering the cracked line.

good chance its a vacuum leak, check all hoses. if not that, possibly a faulty sensor (such as TPS).

wow didnt know a vacum leak would cause your throttle to stay open....crazy...seems dangerous too.....im glad i didnt get the vacum option on my neon.....i just carry a rechargable cordless vacum most the time...works pretty good....

its not causeing the throttle to stick...but it is allowing air in AFTER the tb

therefore giving the impression that the throttle is sticking.

to see if the throttle itself is sticking. when it does it, pop the hood and get out and look under there and see whats going on. it will sound pissed because it will bounce off the rev limiter. then you will know if its sticking or vacuum.

Id suggest checking the PCV line and the line at the intake manifold (directly after the TB). that second one when uncorked will cause high idle for sure.

Not all the time.....
I had a similar issue to find out there was a split in my bellows tube, small enough to suck air in and idle at 3k rpm but not large enough to where you can hear it. I found it by spraying some carb cleaner around components until it got sucked into the engine(causing misfiring or stumbling)

yea i had the same problem that tube between the tb and intake manifold was pinched...... i was driving and it just started to hit the rev limiter.......they should have just put the tb on the manifold
