NEED HELP ASAP CAR WON'T START

Post by seisephiroth » Tue Feb 20, 2007 1:15 am

me and a freind installed my camshaft, udp, 60mm TB, and brake pads over the weekend, and everything went back together fine and everything. we go to start the car and it won't turn over. i've replaced the ign coil pack, plugwires, spark plugs, Camshaft position sensor, and the crankshaft postition sensor. what would make it not start?

guessing you already unplugged the battery for a couple minutes, to reset the ecu.. make sure you have both plugs attached to the throttle body as well, could just be a monday detail

when you put the new camshaft on make sure its in the right position...i did a few camshaft swaps in integras, not on the neon yet but i had the timing of by 5 degrees and it made it not turn on cause intake an exhaust were off by a lil bit, also double check all wiring and give it a lil time if you disconected the fuel rail, so the fuel can get back into the engine.

when you took the timing belt off did you mark any timing marks on the camgear on the timing belt??? if not it might be off a lil then you just have to try to find tdc on the udp aka crankshaft pulley w/e ppl wanna call it these days lol. try diffrent spots on the camshaft if your not sure where the marks are suppose to be on the belt. also make sure the belts are to specs on the alternator. is it makign any sounds, turning over but not starting..anything?? clicking??? lmk pm me if you still cant get it started

If is cranking then i definitely has to be the coil or the cam. Its probally not the coil but you could try the old one to see if it starts. The cam is probally not timed correctly. Is it throwing a code might be the cam position sensor or crank position sensor make sure they are connected. The most probale cause is probally timing. Also make sure cam is not in 180 degrees off. Not sure if it will hit valves like that or not, but probally not. It would just open intake when exhaust is suppose to be open and vice versa. Hopefully you figure it out.

ok check it out....heres wat made me fuck up... had my shit back together in a jiffy and then it sputtered once on the initial start up and then just ran the starter...i thought i was of by a bit or no spark too...so i checked spark and then re checked the arrows....then i noticed i didnt tighten the cam gear all the way up so when i started it the lil nuckle on the cam got it to turn over once then it snapped off and the cam gear was just spinnin on the cam......ur situation sounds exactly like mine.....check to see if the bolt on the cam gear is tight...if its not then thats wat happened and u can send it back to modern and wait ten years while they send it to crane cams.(assumin u got it on modernperformance.com) or u can just allign that missin notch spot by eye and crank the boltreally tight ...thats wat i did...now its golden...and i now have 360 degree adjustable cam gear lol

What cam did you throw in? And of course, how did you do it? Remove the head, or slide it in the side in a fashion I have no idea how to do?

good thing its impossible to kill the valves on neon heads hah?....lol...and to the guy sayin how the hell u do it...theres a HOW-TO on it in pretty good detail if u dont wanna take off the head....also when u took off the head how did u possibly get the timein belt back on without takin off the tensioner ......mine was rediculously far from bein able to leave on the tensioner had to pull the harmonic and all that shit down there....

i see well with mine no bungie cord would ever have been able to hold it up there it was prolly like 500+lbs would have been required to get that thing up there b/c my step dad even tried and didnt phase the thing..... and hes pretty big ...dam tensioner fully extended the second we took the belt off the cam gear.... i dont understand y ur guys tensioner didnt extend like that its weird.. also since u took the head off how did the #1 cylinder look?.....seems thats where the oil likes to travel to on mine it was all black and stuff......doin the catch can on friday..
