These brake lights..

Post by soldierofink » Sun Mar 06, 2005 8:45 am

I linked this up into the exterior portion of the board. Here's the link to pictures of my tail lights. I hate the clear craze that everyone is into, so I thought I would try this out. Give me your opinions, they are appreciated.

Yes I saw it, I used this local german paint that they have here. It worked great. The light still shines very bright. I could of probably went darker, but I felt it would be over board. My third brake light and corners are extremly dark though.

Fink,

Your lights look great.

What was the paint called. Did you get it at the Wal-Mart as was suggested?

I might give the spray a go as I would rather spend money on performance parts than flash. The paint sounds like a cheap way to give the lights a different look.

There is only one junkyard near me (Baumholder) but if you are in Mannheim then I am sure you might have one or two larger junkyards in the area. If they have any junked 2nd gens then you could pick up the "euro taillights" for little money. Some guy was offering the Euro Spec taillights for sale at the .org for about $250!

Still can't believe anyone would spend that kind of money on a set of taillights!

There is not anything for parts around here. You have to do practically everything online. But if you goto wal*mart and goto there rice burner aisle where all of the paints are, there is a can of paint that has a yellow label, with a picture of headlights on it. The top is transparent with the color that it is. Its about 16.00 euro for a can.

My local boneyard has a few 1st gens, and DOHC engines (according to one guy at the lot). I have seen the 1st gens in the yard - all engines are pulled and put in a warehouse.

Thanks,

Jeff

Hmmm. Interesting because I want to find some scrap parts like side mirrors, and interrior parts to do trial runs on paint wise before I do it to my original parts.

Fink,

I have seen pictures of your car and you have a 2nd gen. The three neons at the local junkyard in Baumholder are all 1st gens. I don't think you can use any of the interior parts in your 2nd Gen neon.

The junkyard is located in Baumholder and is run by a man named Erich Werner. I don't even know what the name of the yard and garage is, we simply call it "Werners."

I'd give you the phone number now, but I only have an Idar-Oberstein and Birkenfeld phonebook at the house. If you are interested in calling the Werners then I can post the number for you tomorrow. I have the Baumholder phone book at my work. Hell, I can see Werner's lot from where I work. They are nice guys who get most of their business by breathing life in to the crap temp vehicles that the Americans buy.

Tell me, have either you or Ram50Rocket gone to a local GERMAN junkyard to see what they have? I don't mean your post stip lot, rather the local Geraman junkyard. This is the land of VW, BMW, Mercedes, and Opel, so it is not likely that you would find many Neons at all, but Chrysler does sell the neon here in Germany, so there is a chance to find one.

I was'nt going to use the parts on my car, I was going to test them out for the interior mods I want to do. Trial and Error I guess you can say. And by the way the name is Soldier of Ink, its ok though everyone says Fink.

Soldier of Ink,

Now I get it.

Maybe try breaking it up a bit with caps and lower case:

SoldierOfInk...

Soldier-of-Ink

I will pm the phone number for you tomorrow. Three 1st Gens are there, and NO 2nd Gens. Myself, I am on the hunt for 2nd Gens.

I tinted my corner lenses and 3rd brake light years ago. I now have custom tinted reverse lights on my stock tails. You can check my "www" button to see pics of everything.

The black on silver look is much better than anything else that people do to theirs. I, personally, HATE chrome tails. They look so tacky on any car, but especially on silver.

Very nice. I did mine like that too. Cept I used about 6-7 coats of Niteshades and about 3 coats of automotive clear coat.

If you do it just right, the Nightshades dries glossy as hell. It's hard to get it perfect, however.
