Satelite Radio Users/Experts FM/Mounting/Antenna

I am getting a Roady XT with the new Sureconnect to install in the Neon and I am exploring the various install options. How do you have your antenna routed and how do you broadcast to your stock headunit? Right now I am leaning towards this:

Delphi SA10112 FM Modulator Adapter

But the Sureconnect looks intriguing, but a pain in the ass, or the regular included FM modulator is always an option as well.

Also where did you mount your receiver and how?

im not sure about that brand of radio. but my radio is hardwired through the antenne for the best sound. then the reciver is on the roof of my car. it connects with a simple magnet. the whole install is easy but take your time hiding and running the wires. and id highly recomend hardwireing it

if you dont have a cd changer, but your stock radio has the disc up and disc down button then you can use this:

im probably going to get this in the next couple months after i double check that i have the disc up and disc down button. im pretty sure that is the right one. i spoke with a crutchfield tech a few weeks ago. right now im going off of memory, but i can check my email on the other computer in a few.

i prefer wiring the unit directly into the radio. i have had my xm wired directly into my pioneer for a while, but my pioneer is crapping out on the driver side so i will probably go back to stock. the sureconnect doesnt look like something i would be interested in.

i had mine mounted in the driver side center vent for a while, but it got annoying. it didnt want to stay up that well. then since i had an aftermarket radio and the fit kit for an aftermarket had a little slot below the radio i put it there. now i made my own bracket that will be mounted higher up. if you can picture where the srt boost gauge is, go to the right a little. my new setup did require drilling a couple of holes in the upper dash. hopefully tomorrow i will have the new setup completely installed.

one thing i do recommend is that you go check out www.myradiostore.com they have a lot of xm accessories. they also have a hardwire kit that knocks the 12v from the car down to the 5v or 6v that the radio needs. i have this for my roady 2. if you wire it to the right spot then you can listen to XM with the key turned back, when the cigarette lighter normally doesnt work. it also makes for a cleaner installation imo.

if you go to my project log you can see my current and future locations, as well as the bracket that i made. i dont have pictures of when the unit was on the vent but i just followed the directions from XM

edit: i just checked the part number on the link above with the one the crutchfield tech told me, and the one above is what he told me would work.

For my receiver box on my RB1 Nav unit I have it mounted in the trunk between the two rear speakers.

For my antenna I made a bracket out of aluminum I bought at Home Depot, painted it black, mounted the antenna on it and it's sitting under the rear window on the rear shelf, also between the speakers. Works well, cuts out every now and then but I was not going to drill a whole in my roof for the antenna, nor the trunk so this was the best thing I could come up with and it works well enough for me.

I have my antenna right at the very top of the rear window. Then the wire runs down through the weather stripping and then I filed a notch under the trunk weather stripping and wrapped the wire in electrical tape so it wouldnt get cut. then it goes through the car.

I have heard it works pretty well through the window... Do you have window tint?

I need to figure that out but first I have to find a location on the dash that myself and my fiancee find comfortable.

ill let you know when my new mounting setup is all done so you can see it. its pretty simple. its a piece of scrap metal bent in some goofy ways and painted flat black, with flat black screws. I really hope everything works out like i planned or else im gonna have 3 holes in my dash.

but it should be fine because i fit everything before i drilled any holes.

Yes I do... 35% It cuts out every now and then when you go under thick tress but for the most part just crusing down the interstate it works just fine for me

XM antennas work good inside the car serius work ok, SAT antennas are alot easier to install along the FRONT windshield, down the pillar and though the door boot (at an angle dont straight bend the cable ESPECIALLY on serius antennas)

I have Sirius radio in my car. What's the best antenna out there to use?
I use the antenna it came with in my car and its ok but I use the same antenna in my work truck and it sounds better.
In my car, it cuts in and out and there's a lot of static. I have it mounted on the roof, no tint.
Would a XM antenna be better? Would it work?

i believe if you have a sirius unit you have to use a sirius antenna and visa versa

the sirius and xm antennas are interchangeable

HOWEVER only if you put an xm antenna on a sirius unit, if you put a sirius antenna on an xm unit its not going to work all that great, thats because the xm units output thier FM signal though the antenna and sirius dont so thier antennas werent really made for that and itll interfere with the satelite signal if you throw a sirius antenna on a xm, but the other way arround works fine, i had it on my SIR-PNR1 for a while, worked like a champ till i replaced it with a sirius antenna, if u have a sirius unit i would use a xm antenna just because they are easier to work with if that was all available and was tight on cash (xm antennas are cheaper).... but still i would stay within brands

here is where i mounted mine, i also had mine in the air vent but when ever i took off at WOT it would always fall, haha

then i broke the mount one day so lo and behold...

an idea + 3m double sided tape and i got this....

its mounted right on the bezel that pops off, and the wiring is going through that little box area above it

as for connecting it to the head unit, bought a $5 cable from radioshack that went from mini plug to L and R rca plugs and connected that to my head units aux port, works great! crystal clear!
