Well, you can prefit them yourself, but I would only do that if you have pretty good skillz... girls like guys with skillz... But honestly, Opi is right (and speaks from experience
). But like I said, you can prefit them yourself, take em to a paint shop already primered, and they can paint em. But I wouldn't

go to a shop, have them estimate
it's the ONLY way you're going to know. Every single area of the united states will charge differently. There's no way you can estimate over the interenet, or over the phone. You're just going to have to pick up your phone and call, or run out and show them.

Id install it myself, unless u have pics of how its supposed to look. they dont know how lips are supposed to fit on every car, and I wouldnt leave it to their imagination, especially when they might be drilling. Id have someone paint it, and install it yourself. prepare to have a heart attack when u get a price estimate. If you know someone who paints I highly suggest taking that route. major body and paint shops nowadays are quite overpriced. Maaco quoted me at 500 for sides and a front lip, painted. my neighbor referred me to his buddy and I saved $250 AND he helped me install it.

^but he's talking a lip kit, not a full kit....
and i agree withthe statements of test fit, get painted, and install it yourself.

dont even wait to get it painted!! just put it on right now, then through some steelies on and drive around town in the snow and salt covered roads. make sure everyone knows you're real fast too.
what, thats what kids do here all the time......i though they were cool!
if you spent the money on the kit, take a little more time and money and get it painted and installed by a body shop. you will be much happier and also get more respect from others!

matching the paint has nothing to do with actually seeing it. they use the code in the door jamb. they dont even need your car to be there once to paint them to match perfectly. Well, if theyre competant at what they do at least..Adam_T wrote:yeah but i want someone who can match the paint....AND it not wear quick and start chipping. haha. i guess i can look around. i was told it would be around 2-300 for a good job.

It wont chip either, unless you drive in lots of rocky, gravelly conditions or if you follow too close behind people on the highway. I just got the first chip on my bumper and ive had it painted for a year. i think it flew up on the road i live on since its one of those cheaply paved roads and i made the mistake of driving too fast down it one day.
Not quite. While they do use your vin number and paint code to get a match your paint itself may vary from the baseline color. Depending on which plant painted it (and how the paint batch was mixed) your paint may have a slight variation. A test panel is usually sprayed so the painter can get an idea of exactly what mixture and how many coats should match up with your paint. Its more or less a personalization since its rarely the exact color for ALL neons of that paint code.OB wrote:matching the paint has nothing to do with actually seeing it. they use the code in the door jamb. they dont even need your car to be there once to paint them to match perfectly. For instance, when I got my sides and front painted my car ended up with 6 known variations of steelblue. The painter has to try and match the variations so that you won't be able even tell that it didn't come like that from the factory. Bottom line is: yes you can just use the basic paint code and spray your car (either yourself or a professional) but it is a gamble that it will be a close match.

im gonna diasgree with you there... i got more props for someone who does their own work as opposed to someone who pays other people money to do it for them.teamliviD wrote:if you spent the money on the kit, take a little more time and money and get it painted and installed by a body shop. you will be much happier and also get more respect from others!

Ya know what? Fuck it...if you can afford to have them put it on, then do it. If not, then put it on yourself. Noone is going to give you shit for having someone putting it on for you. Hell, I paid someone $200 to hang mine...I didn't care because I knew they could put it on straighter than I ever could, and I had the 4-piece...you're missing the front, so it should be a TAD bit cheaper. Also, just bring it to somewhere that has a good reputation in painting and you won't be dissapointed...if you are, they will make it right...that's what a good shop does...end of story!
