Any HP gain with R/T muffler?

Post by jmr » Fri Mar 02, 2007 10:52 am

I've got a 2005 SRT-D that came with the R/T dual exhaust muffler.
Is there very much of a HP gain with this muffler over the single exhaust version ?

it allows better airflow over the single exhaust.
HP gain? maybe 1 or 2 at very best with other mods.

R/T is the best for the money exhaust you can buy though.

It came from the factory with the R/T exhaust. So I was curious what the gain would be compared to the single exhaust. I didn't think it would be very much at all. My drop in K&N air filter has probably the same result.

the rt muffler is very free flowing, so changing it to a single output exhaust will probably not do anything to it unless you get one hella more free flowing muffler. I would keep it on, because in all reality, you will probably not gain a single horse from replacing it, plus you would have an extra cutout in the back not filled  :?

I'm not taking it off, just wonder what the gain was over the single exhaust. So instead of 132 hp, I got 133 hp......rock on.

Going from a standard SOHC muffler to an SRT rear section, I didn't gain any horsepower, but the sonic waves bouncing off my car made it go faster.

Exhaust on these cars are only for your sound preference. The damn factory did a pretty good job on our cars. Especially the r/t's.

Quotted for truth  The gains you would get are so small they'd nearly be immeasurable.

Didn't you lose hardly any power with your srt swap car using the r/t muffler?

On a Mustang Dyno there was an SRT there that dyno somewhere around 207whp and it was stock except for CAI and maybe some other bolt ons, Jess (01rtgurl), might know more of it's mods if she remembers it. Anyway... I had a lot of boost leaks that day and dyno'd around 194-195 something I think. I came back a few weeks later after I fixed my leaks and put down around 211 so yah... the same as a pretty stock SRT that dyno's on the same dyno before. To me, that appears that the R/T exhaust didn't really hurt me much at all, if any. Yes it was a different day so air temps, humidity, ect could have made a difference but I doubt it was a ton.

the srt-4 catback has a stupid 2 inch section just over the frame in the rear, whereas the rt does not and has continuous pipe diameter of 2.25 all the way back.
