Important header/exhaust question.

Post by soldierofink » Sun Mar 13, 2005 12:43 pm

Ok so here's the deal....im taking my friends ACR header off of his hands and im wanting to put it on my 05 SXT. Well the problem in hand is, the sxt piping is 2" and the acr outlet it 2"14. What can I do to make this work. The obvious answer is catback or just enlarge my exhaust completly. But I do not want to invest that money yet. Is there some sort of adapter to take the 2 1/4 header outlet into my 2" exhaust? If there isn't any recomendations on what I should do?

Soldier-of-Ink,

First, did you get my pm regarding the phone number for the junk yard in Baumholder?

Secondly, if all you need to do is reduce one size tubing to another, then simply buy an adapter piece and have it welded or clamped in.

For example, got to http://store.summitracing.com/ and search for part number WLK-41952

Cost for 2.25 to 2" is $4.39.

see I have not gotten under the car to look at it all just yet...do I have to cut some of the piping out on the exhaust portion to line the flanges up or what??

Are you talking about using Ram50Rocket's stock magnum exhaust manifold on your non-mag SOHC motor?

If that is the case then I belive the manifold will bolt right up to your downpipe - relatively easy and not cutting.

How much of the exhaust will you get? Just the manifold, or the whole exhuast?

I know I saw something at neons.org regarding a mag manifold on a non-mag head...

you could probably go get your "umadbro" polished up to make it look like a new comeback again

I may be a civilian who does not have an eye for the obvious, but I am damn good at researching information.

According to several posts on the subject he will need the downpipe too. I can't imagine you'll be able to use your downpipe (includes the cat) with a long tube header.

I think I have located all the parts needed to easily make a new flange-flex-cat section.

The bits-and-pieces are at :

He doesn't even need a cat, the longtube I put on will replace all of that I believe. And I am sure my bigger cat flows more than his stock.

Oh no, I meant all of those links regarding cats and other bits for you - the long tube (or even the medium TTI) means YOU will need a new cat section.

But ink only needs the stock Magnum exhaust manifold and attached downpipe... and a propane torch, some anti-sieze spray, gaskets, wrenches, and patience.

I have a new cat and resonator. Me and ink have everything else you mentioned but patience. That's one thing I have to work on, I'm working on a crate of high quality german beer now :D

That should help with your patience...

Myself, I am content with run-of-the-mill regional Bitburg or Kirner Pils. Just now I am sick with a sinus infection and sore throat... and working my way through a big jug of water.

Enjoy the beer!

From everything I've heard the ACR header will bolt right on... you may need the stock ACR downpipe/cat assembly, but that will bolt right to your SXT exaust.

The SXT exaust is actually 2 1/4" all the way back to the muffler. It tapers down to 2" right at the joint where the muffler connects.
