E-Check FTL. Cheat the system!!!

Post by 01rtgurl » Thu Mar 08, 2007 8:41 pm

So my license plates expire in March. However, I lose my license on Tuesday (3/13). You can't get plates w/o a license lol so I had to go get my car e-checked a month early, so I could go get plates a month early so when I get my license BACK... I can drive.

For those of you that don't know/have e-check:
You used to have to pay $20 for a company to inspect your car's emissions/gas cap/exhaust (make sure you have a cat and gas cap). I think you could only go 3 times.
They have now made it free and you can go as many times as you want/need to pass now.

So I take the Neon. The young kid went to move it, and he stalled it. The girl who then took it had no problems

First, the OBD-II wouldn't read, so they had to do the 'ole sniffer test. She put it on the rollers and it seriously took like 5 minutes @ 25 mph then the test was over.

My 91 Miata had no problems passing.... the Neon fails.

Hydrocarbons: 88.5 out of a possible 89.0 = PASS
Carbon Monoxide: .56 out of a possible .50 = FAIL
Nox: 1920.7 out of a possible 684.0 (LOL) = FAIL
Gas cap was fine.

Holy Nox batman!! Upon reading their pamphlet afterwards, apparently Nox (Nitrogen/Oxygen compounds) is produced when engine combustion temperatures run high (that does NOT make me feel good lol cuz I already think it's too lean as is).

So then I went to CVS and grabbed a quart of rubbing alcohol. The 91% stuff. Stuck it in my 1/4 full tank and filled up the tank. Ran the car HARD for 9.9 miles, came into the echeck place 3 hours later, brakes smelling and car pretty warm.

On the rollers again. This time it passes.
Hydrocarbons: 64.1 out of a possible 89.0 = PASS
Carbon Monoxide: .29 out of a possible .50 = PASS
Nox: 682.8 out of a possible 684.0 (close!) = PASS
They didn't check the gas cap or for presence of a cat. Whatever!

Bottle of rubbing alcohol: $2.11
Fresh tank of 92 octane and 9.9 miles of hard driving including one Hawk HPS-fading 100+ mph stop: $23.32
Passing e-check by 1.2 PPM: PRICELESS!!!!!!

My friend with a Miata told me he did it... otherwise I wouldn't have believed it.

He said when he got his Miata it was about 4 times the limit, on EVERYTHING lol. He tried the "guaranteed to pass" stuff from autozone and it did nothing. tried *some* alcohol and did a little. He tried 3x what others told him to use, and it got him almost there. He ended up registering the car in a different county that doesn't have echeck LOL!

I know there are topics on it, whether or not it ruins seals and/or plastic pieces but I am not using it continually as an octane booster, although I believe it would be about 101 octane with that in the gas.

Oh ya--edit: My b/f is debating whether it was the alcohol or the hard driving. I said more than likely the alcohol because the hard driving is only a notch above my normal driving

people have been putting alcohol in gas tanks for emissions for years. thats all dry gas is. dry gas is just 100% isopropyl. last time i just used some methanol that we had in our barrel of race fuel.
