Transmission differences?
Transmission differences?
Hello everyone, I just had a general question: What is the difference between a 01-05 Neon manual transmission between the R/T and the other models? I know 2000 had cable driven, and in 01 it went to hydraulic, but I assume the bolt pattern is the same for the transmissions, and things like gear ratios would be a bit different, but is axle length different or something that would prevent me from putting in a different transmission out of a non-R/T car? Also if you happen to know the gear ratios, that would be nice too.
Cars I've been through:
1989 Toyota Supra Turbo (still have it, non-running)
1994 Acura Integra (wrecked)
1994 Chrysler New Yorker (still have it, mom's now)
1990 Honda Civic AWD Wagon (stolen)
1998 Honda Civic LX (stolen)
1994 Nissan Pickup (bought from uncle, sold back to him)
2001 Dodge Neon R/T (wrecked)
1998 Lexus GS300 (current)
1999 BMW 528i Sport (current)

All non-SRT 2gn neons (except early 2000's) got the New Venture Gear T350HD transaxle (a slightly beefed up version of the T350 that came with the first gen neons, hence the "HD" designation) . SRT's got the NVG T850.
The difference between the magnum (rt and acr) trans and the non-magnum trans is that the magnum has a higher final drive ratio, 3.94 compared to 3.55.
The T-850 has equal length halfshafts compared to the unequal halfsshaft of the T350's.
Bolt patern for mounting should be the same.
heres a cross reference

The 2001-04 Magnum has a 3.94 final drive with a .81 fifth gear. The 2001-02 non-Magnum has a 3.55 final drive and .81 fifth gear. The 2003-05 non-Magnum has a 3.55 final drive with a .72 fifth gear. You can always find a link to the cross-reference chart in my sig. I thought I should link it since I'm the guy who researches and maintains the chart.

Yes I do believe in the early years or just 2000 they used MTF and then switched to ATF for cost cutting reasons.
