K&N intake

Post by yankeesking » Fri Mar 09, 2007 5:10 pm

Hi, I mentioned in other site, I just got my 2000 neon, and plans to do mods on it.

I had 2001 Corolla back few years ago and I installed K&N intake (popular item for Corolla) This sound was wonderful. I had it for few years. So now I have 2000 Neon, I wonder if anyone has it and how come not many people has it?

I just ask some questions before I start go crazy and buy mods for my neon.

Thanks for your time

OB has one, dont really know why many people dont have it. maybe its expensive compared to the AEM.

OB is his actual user name, search for him, send him a pm and im sure he will answer any questions you have.

If I were getting a new CAI (have onoe though, thanks!) I would go with K&N, AEM, or Injen - why? Name and rep, thats it. Why not wait for one to pop up in the for sale sections here? That is what I would have done had I been patient!!! I finally learned, and waited for almost a year before I found my comp 400 camshaft - but I paid only $100 for it

I had the K&N Typhon intake on my 05' auto neon. It was my very first MOD and according to the but dyno, I felt the biggest increase over anything else.

Someone correct me if I'm wrong, but the problem with the K&N Typhon is that it doesn't replace the stock bellows tube like the AEM and others. Which is why the K&N cost less than the AME and others.

i have the K&N... cost me $180 brand new.

It's the ONLY intake system that has TB mouting brackets.
No, it doesn't replace the bellows tube... but... who cares? *shrugs*

I love mine, that's for damn sure.

Replacing the bellows tube is why the others get about 2 more hp/tq than the K&N. The stock bellows tube tappers from 2.5" to 2.25". The replacment ones are typically 2.5" all the way. It's really all about if 2hp/tq is worth $50.

if the stock bellows tube tapers, then it increases the velocity of the air going into the intake manifold.

i've got a k&n typhoon without filter or accessories. but, it does have a bung welded to the bottom for a nitrous nozzle in case you want to add that power adder later. it's just sitting in a box. if you want it i'll take 25.00 plus shipping.

you got it. it doesn't have the tb bracket or filter, but it does have the couplers and clamps as well as the nice mounting tab that attaches to the fender well to hold everything in place unlike my iceman that just hangs out there in space! lmk. sorry for the thread hijack.

That's not the Typhoon intake though.

This is what came with mine when I bought it:

-TB Mounting brackets
Image
-Piping
-Clamps
-Filter (w/water filter cover)
-Allen wrench
-Rubber piece to go around the hole that leads into the fender
-HIGHLY detailed instructions w/pictures of OUR car
-Hoses
-Other small crap I'm not remembering....

Needless to say, I like my K&N, and would buy it again in a heart beat.

I would have purchased the K&N typhoon, but I have the 60mm TB and the mounting brackets will not work with that TB, so Injen it was...

Yeah me too. I've always wanted to see if that made a difference in ice cold winter gas mileage.

I have no complaints about my K&N. Sounds great and gives you a few ponies. Thats about all I expected so im happy with it. As far as the bellows tube deal goes, the way I see it, replacing it probably does little to nothing as far as power goes. If someone could show me before and after dynos then Id be sold, but until then, ill stick with the stock one and continue with my opinions

for the most part you dont need that part, bypass valve. but if you completely submerge the filter in water, then its supposed to help.
