UDP error on 02 Neons is it only on RTs or all models?

This is the place to ask questions about your engine components like cams, valves, pistons… just anything that is generally "engine" specific. This also includes questions about exhaust systems such as exhaust manifolds, piping size, mufflers, ect...

UDP error on 02 Neons is it only on RTs or all models?

Post by SinfulNeon » Sun Mar 11, 2007 1:03 am

Hi, I have had a lot of people say that on the 02 Neons and only the 02 neons that there is an error code when using a UR or MPX UDP and then your engine goes into as some have said "limp home mode", so heres were I get confused some people say that error is only on the 02 Neon RTs so what Im wondering then is will I get that error on my 02 Neon SE???

Thanks guys for your input.

I've got a CEL from my udp, that comes and goes.. depends if ive been driving hard or not.. doesn't hurt anything.. really only comes on if your doing a lot of driving past 5500rpm.

Yes. The non-Magnum '02s will throw a code " #X cylinder misfire" or "multiple cylinder misfire". It happened with my AF/x UDP. Rev it past 4500 or so and it threw the code. I had the UDP on my '02 ES prior to the Mag swap, with just a CAI and upgraded exhaust. I only ran it for 1k or so IIRC, damn the CEL. The pully is sitting in a drawer, I should list it. :tardbang:

I've got an 02 non-r/t and I don't have a problem with it. Then again I'm not sure my knock sensor is hooked up.......lol I'd better check it, it keeps coming off. So far no trouble though

Normal for all 2002s. Usually only comes on when you're above 5000 for longer than a few seconds. Just displays a misfire code since they bumped up the sensitivity of the knock sensor. It won't hurt anything though, just gotta get used to checknig your codes every now and then to see if you're throwing any others or listen for the chime sound when you get another code.

can you swap an 02 sensor for an 01 sensor or is it in the pcm and not the sensor itself

Meh, I wouldnt worry too much about the Check engine light Associated with the UDP since its not hurting performance or anything else for that matter. And since its only going to pop up if your reving past 5500rpm, its not going to happen very often, if you, for example had to go in for some type of inspection, just pull the negative battery terminal for a couple minutes, and then drive there, staying under 5000rpm.

Here in NYS doing that will reset your monitors and even though your CEL is off, you will fail inspections because of the emission monitors being reset from the battery being disconnected. If your CEL comes on for the misfire do to the UDP, just drive it normally for a day or so, it will clear itself out...

My 02 ACR got this all the time, and it comes on around 4,000 or so for a sustain period of time ( I couldnt go over 80 something on the highway for a long time because the CEL would drive me crazy)
