Water pump replacement

Post by Kernel Panic » Wed Mar 16, 2005 10:03 am

Has anyone done a waterpump replacement? MIne has 80k on it and has a slight leak from what appears to coming from the gear shaft. I intend to replace the timing belt and tensioner while I have it all apart. Does anyone have any short cuts, and the approximate time involved. I know it involves removing both the crank and cam gears(and I really don't relish doing that), and I might while I am at it stuff the CompCam #200 in. Again what is involved with that, and espeically any pitfalls and the amount of time this should take.

Who was the idiot who decided to put the damm water pump on the timing belt(so if your wp decides to dump hard you could possibly lose the engine too)??? On my old Shadow and TC3 I didn't have to do all this bs, just remove the accessory belts, unbolt the WP and consider the job done. That took only about an 1 hour and a six pack. From looking at the FSM it appears it'll take the whole fscking day and probably a case just for a water pump....

Nope. Well not unless you shave the head like crazy! That car has eaten 3 timing belts and never had an internal problem.

I can make a TIII belt last 40,000 easily. Just modify the stock tensioner to grab the block better (already done) and use the FSM specified tensioning tool. Trust me, I have the TIII down to a science, and what i haven't learned yet i will learn by the end of the year.

As for you water pump, did you start on it yet?
