Hissing sound from intake?

This is the place to ask questions about your engine components like cams, valves, pistons… just anything that is generally "engine" specific. This also includes questions about exhaust systems such as exhaust manifolds, piping size, mufflers, ect...

Hissing sound from intake?

Post by TheNumberOneD » Tue Mar 13, 2007 6:19 pm

i just made a new intake,

and its making a really.. really.. load hissing, sucking sound.

i have no idea if it'll go away, if it needs to break in, or if i did something wrong..

here is a picture of it.

i can't get a recording of the noise, but has anyone had this happen with their aem or other kind of intake?

cause the K&n setup i had on it earlier didn't make this kind of noise..

Before with just a K&n intake:

and now with the new (in the make ram-air intake)

anyone think of a reason why it would be making this hissing sound?

No idea but where the heck did you put that filter now??? Can't see where the pipe is coming from but it seems to me it's sucking a lot of hot air there.

if you were fine before, and now you arent. there has to be a loose connector or a bad connection in there with the couplers that is causing a vacuum leak.

yhea, right now its getting both exhaust heated air, and cold air from the scoop so its not really a CAI at the momment.

As soon as i get the long filter, and the firewall made, it'll be nothing but cold ram air intake! :)

i'll keep you all posted

The hissing sound is a snake. Snake in you intake. Don't touch the intake, you'll piss off the snake. Let the snake be.

Reminds me of the snake that would up in the engine bay of a RSX. Not pretty.

your intake looks like it is going to be sucking up a ton of hot air where it is at.

Hate to say it, but if you're seeing gains now over your K&N setup, then something was wrong with the K&N.

^ I agree, I mean unless you heat wrap the headers. I had heat wrapped my headers on my 98 R/T that + the scoop should be all to the good.
