Post by getcrunk88 » Wed Mar 14, 2007 8:03 pm

I was looking on summit racing for a shortshifter for my car and came by this hurst for an srt-4 would anybody know if this would fit my 04 r/t without any problems or modifications? and if it does fit is it hard to install and adjust?

Go with a Maddog one. You can get what % reduction you want plus they come with rod brakes. The MP one sucks. I had it and I hated it.

The rod brake is so if you are shifting hard and fast you dont over extend that cable and break off the ends of your shifter cables.

If you order an SRT shifter from Maddog for your Neon, it won't come with the rod brakes, just so ya know...I highly recommend a Maddog shifter though. After installing my %58 reduced throw w/ 1" shortened rod and boogers, I fell in love with driving my car all over again...

Just so there is no mis-information, I'll clarify.

If you order a Maddog SRT4 STS for an SRT4, it will come with a rod brake. All such STS will have the -4 suffix; 50-4, 58-4, 72-4, and 80-4.

If you order a Maddog STS for a 2nd gen Neon, it will not come with a rod brake. All such STS will have the -2 suffix; 50-2, 54-2, 72-2, and 76-2.

If you order a Maddog STS w/a chrome SRT4 rod for a 2nd gen Neon, it will not come with a rod brake. All such STS will have a -4/2 suffix; 50-4/2, 54-4/2, 72-4/2, and 76-4/2.

If you order a Maddog SRT4 STS using the 2nd gen Neon stock assembly (rod, knob, and boot), it will have a -2/4 suffix; 50-2/4, 54-2/4, 72-2/4, and 76-2/4 - I have 72-2/4 in my '05 SRT4. This STS requires modification of the stock 2nd gen boot mount bracket to clear the 6mm SHCS.

Custom STSs - JEGS and Summit Racing both sell Hurst shift rods, like the one that comes on the Hurst assembly pictured in the above post. I have done, and am currently working on, custom STS using the Hurst rod top w/the Maddog STS base. This gives you the Hurst look, and, not just front to back redux like the Hurst STS is limited to, but side to side redux, as well. Maddog STS with the Hurst upper rod will have an "H" added to the end of the suffix. For example, 50-2H, 72-4H, 58-2/4H , 80-4/2H, etc. Depending on what shift boot you use will determine how much, if any, of the Hurst script shows.

Please contact me with any questions.

That is the best of all worlds! You just made my day -- and saving up for my next mod! Maddog base + Hurst Rod/knob = FTW!

You bought the Hurst STS rod and 1/4" spacer that was originally designed for the 1st gen, and later adapted (w/inclusion of spring and pin hole) to fit the standard 2nd gen.
The new Hurst STS is designed to fit 2 different platforms, and a total of 4 different models: PT Cruiser n/a, PT/GT Cruiser, '00-'05 Neon, and '03-'05 SRT4. It can aslo be used on a Mopar STS, making it a bit more flexible, as well as 1st gen Neons, Stratus, Breeze, Daytona, and Shadow/Sundance. All those shifter platforms are basicly the same, with some minor design/application differences.
