Install Amp kit

Post by opyr8yr » Sat Mar 17, 2007 5:31 pm

I want to run either 8 or 4 gauge wire from my battery to the trunk, anyone know of a way to do this without drilling through the firewall? If not, where's the best spot to punch a hole?

If you look to the left of the pedals, there are a bunch of wire/cables bunched up. The cables feed through a rubber boot. If you cut a slit in the boot and feed your power wire through, it will come up just behind the battery, below the battery tray.

At least that's where I ran my power cable for my amp. Never had any problems running it through there and it has been over a year.

i supose a slit would due, but i perfered to take the time and run it through with the rest of the wires. either way you look at it though, at least it's not ran through the DAMN DOOR JAM. i HATE that!

oh, and go with the 4 gauge, you'll be glad that you did if you wanna upgrade your system ever... actually you'd wanna go with 00 gauge if you're ever gonna look into compitition

when i ran my 4 gauge, i found a rubber plug on the driver side up by the door hinge and cut a couple slits in that and stuffed it through.

when i took everything out i just filled it with an epoxy, and i completely forgot that i did that until very recently.

wrong section - should be in car audio section... also, just use the grommet next to the clutch pedal in the firewall... cut a slit in it and push it through, then look in the engine bay, you'll see it next to the brake booster (big black round thing) - i think that is what it is called... correct me if wrong

Saw this thread.. rather then making a new one i decided to post here..

I am in the process of saving my money back to buy a Amp and Sub. The guy im buying it from has a Civic.. he was recommending that i get a compacitor for my "little" neon (as he called it.. he's driving a 3 door Civic :tardbang: ) Anyways.. i was woundering if i would need it. I work third shift and the last thing i need to get pulled over because of my lights dimming.

Amp.. Rockford Fosgate P300-1 amp - requires a 4 gauge wiring kit

Sub.. Rockford Fosgate P3 Dual 4 ohm 12"

Also any recommendations on boxes would be appreciated.

you dont need a cap, jsut do the big 3 upgrade to match whatever wiring for your amp your using. so 4gauge big 3, 4 gauge amp wires.

I had a 1500watt Hifonics amp hooked up to a single 12" and i never needed a cap for it. I never did the big 3 either.

theres lots of ways but if your doing it the right way you have to go though the firewall, going though the door-boot or under the car is a BIG no-no in the MECP world. if you have an automatic you can drill a hole in the clutch plate or like its been stated earlier ho though the rubber boot thats up and to the left of the pedals. the guage of the wire your using is dependent on the terminals of the amp, obvioulsly you cant stick 4awg wire into a 8awg terminal. caps are good in 800w+ RMS applications and the big 3 is more trouble and money than its worth vs getting a cap. for what your doing you dont need the big 3

so your saying that spending >$100 for the wires needed for the big 3 is a better choice versus spending like $100" on a good brand cap?

Personally, i would do the big 3, then HO ALT, then a new battery, then a cap as a LAST resort to stop dimming.

well i think my dreams of owning that system were just shot this morning.. the guy i was going to buy the sub and amp off of just got them stolen outta his car last night, makes me kinda mad though cause now (of course) he had to call the cops, so .. guess what with me wanting to buy them that makes me #1 suspect now. grr.. now im not gunna get a sub or amp and the cops are accusing me of stealing it.. and don't even know who took it.. oh well.. looks like i will just have to save up a bunch more money. thanks for the help anyways.
