royal purple???
thinkin of changin to royal purple, anyone runnin it right now? if so how do you like it? i heard once you go with it you cant go back? is this true. i have heard alot of good and some bad about it just thought i would get the real opinions from the guys that are rollin in the same ride as me, if anyone knows how this will affect my car its you guys, so lets hear it. should i go with it or stay with the castrol sytec that i am runnin? and i get both oils at the same price so the cost isnt an issue.

BRR is running it and is very happy with it.
if you can get it for the same price, i would go with it.
any motor oil should be able to mix with any motor oil. therefore, switching back and forth is ok.

I have been using Royal Purple for 2 years now. I used to run 5W30 but am now runnin 5W20. The engine chatter has been cut down significantly and the car does run a little smoother. I also run RP transmission fluid. Our cars take the syncromax.....it is specificaly for manual transmissions that use automatic tranny fluid. You know another route to go would be redline oil. You can go to there website and they actually have a performance package for our cars well srt-4's but same same......anyways......when you switch to RP you can go to any other vrand you want you just cant go back to Dyno Oil you must use Synthetic

My gf ran it for 5k miles with no problems. Then again, she didnt notice any huge hp gains like some RP ads claim. Ive heard from some pretty wise individuals that RP isnt worth the money and they claim its actually worse than many other top of the line syn oils. I prefer Mobil 1 anyday, and ive still never heard a bad thing from a single person about it.

Yes. Royal Purple lubricants are fully compatible with mineral or synthetic oils. No special procedures are necessary when switching to Royal Purple.

I swear by Royal Purple, sure it's a 35 dollar oil change, but it lasts at least 5k miles. Although now that the neon's getting the boot, it's back to napa brand

As long as you run the viper filter (napa #21085 is the silver version and #1085 is the gold) you can run the lower quality level of it just because the filter's made to run in V8's.kirktalife wrote:and this might seem like a stupid question but i can run my normal oem oil filter still right?

Hey man.. I've been running the Castrol Syntec since day 1 also. I'm happy with it. I usually pick it up when Canadian Tire has a sale on so its pretty cheap. I was thinking about switching to Royal Purple after talking with the guys at No Limits but never did. If you switch, let me know how it works out

I would like a non-opinionated answer (if one exists)... Besides price, is there a significant difference between Redline symthetic and Royal Purple?? Peformance, how long it last, something that would warrant $2 more / qt?

probably not
about as non-opinionated as your gonna get
opinion:
i wouldnt use either in a street car, unless it was a super high performance car. your standard "OTC" synthetics will hold up to anything you throw at them

Everyone has an opinion, but I will do my best.hansken_yo wrote:I would like a non-opinionated answer (if one exists)... Besides price, is there a significant difference between Redline symthetic and Royal Purple?? Peformance, how long it last, something that would warrant $2 more / qt?
Royal Purple and redline have been shown buy Used Oil Analysis(UOA) to go about 7-10K fairly easily and then their active add pack wears down and it is time to change your oil. Redline stands up to race beating a bit better and both hold up to spirited road driving very well.
The best filter by particle count found right now by Particle Counts done as an additional test during UOA is the Amsoil EaO series if available for your applications. In a neon that would be EaO57. You can also use the "VIPER" sized EaO42 or the slightly taller EaO96 which is like an Motorcraft FL300 that I have been using. I now have the EaO96 to go in soon. The Particle counts were done by a lube field engineer and found that the oil after being in use 1500 miles with a normal filter got normal level of particles then switched to the EaO filter and run another 1500 was then retested and was cleaner than the virgin oil out of the bottle for particles than after 3000 miles of use.
Also found was that those filters while being much more efficient at filtering were also like to go 2-4 time as long before plugging up.
The best filter is Amsoil. The Mobil1 and K&N are OK and next in line.
Back to oil itself. Depends on your goal. If you like to do long drain intervals or just likely to forget about it for a while, then Amsoil is probably your best bet(with an EaO filter will protect your engine with wear number lower than DINO the WHOLE time with out sludge being a facor). If you are religious about it and can't stand to go past 5K then any Synthetic is just fine. If you race your car then would give the nod to Redline.
