Spring tune up...what should I do?

Spring tune up...what should I do?

Post by supertrick_05 » Sun Mar 25, 2007 2:54 pm

The car has 32,xxx miles on it, but I thought I'd freshen the car up this spring and do a TOTAL tune-up on it, which means change the oil, clean out the air filter, and get new plugs/wires. I'd like to get the best plugs and wires I can, but don't know what to get. I don't want MSD wires cuz I don't want red wires...I'd prefer to stay black. I also heard that the Iridium spark plugs are really good in the Neons and that they make the car run a bit smoother. I'm also thinking of getting a Screamin Demon coil as well (heard good things and it's stock-looking, not red like MSD). Any feedback would be great. Thanks!

The MSD wires I got are black. A lot of people on here including myself run NGK-V power plugs and they work great. I don't think there's really any point of replacing your coil unless you're having problems with it but I could be wrong about this one.

The magnecor wires are red, thats what I have and I wasnt crazy about the red either, but it ended up working and I got them for a great price.

I use ngk vpower plugs also...never had a problem w/ them.

i currently use the v-power plugs, but will probably be getting the ngk iridiums soon.

i have heard very good things about the iridiums. the densos are a bit expensive but the ngk are a little more reasonable at ~$7/ea.

you can get mopar wires and they should be black.

I used really cheap autolite plugs. Was a great upgrade from the stockers at 45000 miles lol.

Can't say that I know alot about the Screamin Demon coil pack, but I couldn't believe when I read that they recommend a .065" plug gap when using that coil!

The NGK V-Powers and NGK Iridium IX are both great plugs. I've used both with perfect results. I don't know if they made my car run smoother because it's always run perfect.

Also, just a note: might want to switch to a Viper-size oil filter if you haven't already. I heard rumors before that it hung below the suspension, but I tried it myself and it doesn't. I use the K&N unit myself.

I have the SD coil on my SRT and it does what any other coil pack would do. I havn't noticed a difference but it could just be me.

Plus I didn't pay for it so that is the only reason I replaced the stock one.

Iridiums are great plugs, thats what I use and they look like new after 10K miles. I use Crane Firewires (they're black), and I'm thinking about getting a Screamin Demon myself, cause my stock coil is getting pretty old (99k) and the car isn't idling as smooth as it used to.

Don't waste the money on the SD coil. From what i heard it's not really worth it.

ngk copper v-powers probably work best with the neon that is pretty much stock. either those or the cheapo champions. those are probably the best 2 to run on our cars imo. ive heard and noticed are cars to be kind of picky about spark plugs. they seem to like the stock champions best or the ngk v-powers. and NGK > champion so i say NGK V-Power FTW :D

edit: also i have a screamin demon coil pack and some 8mm accell (blue) thundersport wires if anyone is interested. ill sell them as a combo or separate...pm me
