Hi there, I searched and look around, I couldn't find it, I apologize if it's repost.
I look for good brand oils for my 2000 neon. It has about est. 110k miles.
during winter, dude at walmart tube shop, he said 30w is good for winter. I use Walmart oil, u know how they usually have.

I use Castrol GTX 5w30 all the time, you could probably use 10w30 in summer but I just keep it the same all year round.

I used the Mobile 1 not only did I get alot of noise, but it burn away quickly (never had the conventional oil burn away either before I tried the Mobile 1)... Switched to Redline and it got quiet and never burn away...
When I do my engine swap I'm going to try Royal Purpal (cause its $2/qt less at Summit).

5W-30 in a neon is just fine. Any SM GF-4 rated oil will easily go 3K miles and protect just fine. As for a convenient filter to get I'd stay away from Fram (another discussion) and if you can get super-tech for the Neon OK, but I really liked the Motorcraft FL-300 as it ups the capacity to 5 full quarts. More oil is better. Got fantastic Used Oil Analysis from Havoline 10W-30 last winter (Accidentally bought the wrong oil, wanted 5W-30) and as far as Mobil1 or Royal Purple from Walmart, Mobil seems to have better UOA results believe it or not.
Redline is great after a couple of Oil Change Intervals if you watch the UOA of the first couple you may cry. But it settles down to almost nothing. If you drive really hard like track days at a road course then this stuff is for you.
Pennzoil Platinum is good on up to 7-10K intervals.
What am I using, started on Amsoil myself. They have, as test by a Lubrication Engineer to verify his suspicions, the best filter out right now. Also use their oil currently 5W-30.

Lol yes the platnum is but its thier new stuff its only been out a year or so. I didn't want someone saying i couldn't have gotten the platnum in 2001 cause it didn't exist.racer12306 wrote:little confused by this statement, pennzoil platnum is a full synthetic oil. or is that what you meant and im just asilentneon01 wrote:Pennzoil Platnum now but its been getting full syn since its first oil change.
Sorry I deal with anal retentive board nazis at other places so I keep my answers very narrow.
