Finely got pulled over...
Yeah, driving around without my bumper covers... An officer pulled me over asking me how long I was planning on driving around with no bumpers... I told him my car was recently in an accident and they are in the process of being fixed.
After a good five minutes and another officer coming and going, he came back to my car and showed me a 'villiage ordinance' saying something about it being illegal and an arrestable offense. He let me go with just a warning (obstructed rear license plate) and told me I should probably stop driving my car until it gets fixed or someone else might pull me over and arrest me.
The only reason I've been driving with no covers was because I read this http://law.onecle.com/illinois/625ilcs5/1-106.5.html. I guess villiage ordinances > state laws.
Guess my bumpers need to be fixed quick.

i dont quite see how that code helps you.
but village ordinances do override state laws if the village ordinace is more strict, i believe.

Right above the intercooler, there's a bumper

The license plate is wire-tired to the bumper.
I dunno what over-rules what, but you most defentally do have bumpers on the car.

got it now, that makes sense
might be different state to state, but it might not hurt to ask silver-es about what overrides what.

besides... it's not my fault they aligned the holes where if I put a zip-tie from one to the other it would obstruct the view of something. They should have designed a license plate where zip-ties would work.
better yet. I think i'll take the zip-ties off and do duct tape stickies on the back of the plate.

All he was issued was a warning though. At this point he has nothing to fight, but yeah... If they stop you again, kindly (or rudely) educate them as to what a bumper is and show them.lawhon wrote:you could fight it in court, if your readint the law right, but it seems like an average person don't stand up in court when it comes to laws. It might take you going to jail for you to prove your point?

...and so on down... constitutional, so yeah, the villiage (or city, township, county) can have its own laws, but honestly doesnt need to considering the state and US gov. already has themTenth Amendment of the US Constitution wrote:The powers not delegated to the United States by the Constitution, nor prohibited by it to the states, are reserved to the states respectively, or to the people.
As for the cop saying get bumpers on there or else the next time you will get arrested, I would just know your facts and the next time/if when you get pulled over be like, there are bumpers on it, the things missing are the bumper covers, they are not a structural item, they just finish off the lines and make it look pretty. If they threaten to arrest you remind them that if they do so, they waste your time, his time, the villiage/cities/towns time and then a judges time and all the taxpayers money - so is it really worth it to him to harass you and throw you in jail for nothing for him to try and make some point, which he is wrong about anyway?

the cop was a fool... like every one said, you have bumpers, just not coverse. that can't be illegal and what i would of done is put a complaint on the officer. he needs to be educated and let known that people are not gonna put up with his bullshit. "you could get arrested" my ass

its just in some citys cops have better things to do than worry about looks of cars in the city.CrucialNeon wrote:thats so ghey, they are just "Covers" why does it matter??? ^^^^^then they beat the $#!t out of you, suddenly find that bag of coke they dropped under your seat, & throw your @$$ in jail. Then you'll likely get all of the charges dropped & they'll get a good laugh.kc2002acr wrote:If they threaten to arrest you remind them that if they do so, they waste your time, his time, the villiage/cities/towns time and then a judges time and all the taxpayers money - so is it really worth it to him to harass you and throw you in jail for nothing for him to try and make some point, which he is wrong about anyway?Tenth Amendment of the US Constitution wrote:The powers not delegated to the United States by the Constitution, nor prohibited by it to the states, are reserved to the states respectively, or to the people.

Luckily our cops can't read.
Naw, I don't really have anything bad to say about the Conneaut Police Department. I've worked with the guys quite a bit being in the Fire Department and we have a pretty decent group. I'm actually thinking about applying...
