2001 CD Changer into a 2002 ? Different plug?

I got a 2001 cd changer (4disc) from a buddy (we both have R/Ts) and it has a round plug on the end of the wire to the radio, and my 2002 doesnt have any place for a round plug, rather it has a square plug with extra pins, so do i need a different cable? or do i need a different deck?

Heres the part#'s of what i currently have, the cable is not usable on my 02 cd/radio unit.

I believe you do need a different HU because between '01 to '02 they changed the plugs on the back slightly.

that looks to be exactly what i need, 8pin(changer)-10pin(radio), the cable is for the nav unit (2002+) on older vehicles (2001) the ends are exactly what i need. now to find a good price on it (list is $37.70)

i ordered the cable friday, and got it today. works perfectly.. except the cable is HUGE. i mean its like omg way too long, i had to stuff it in the center console so i had room for the radio/cdchanger

cable on the left is the new cable, which allows a 2000-01 cdchanger to work on a 2002+ radio. the cable on the right is the stock 2001 cdchanger cable.

ok, a lil bit off topic but not really....
Has anyone tried to install the new 6disc w/ DVD into an 02 model?

When I got my headunit a long time ago. My 02 had a different plug than the 01, they had to special order the 02 plug.

Keep in mind, this was in 2002, right when the car came out, these plugs are probably easy to find now.

FYI there are different adapters available from DCX.....you CAN put an 03 radio into a 95, yes they offer adapters for the wiring but not the h.u itself... I have an 03 AM/FM CD installed on my wife's 95 intrepid with minor mods to the mounting points....
The wiring is the biggest prob, and it can be done through the dealership...

2000 was the year they had came out with the different style front design, but the plugs remained the same. chrysler had the round DIN plug untill 2000. brr had sent me a plug that had a DIN plug on it and i forgot the part number since i cleaned out my pm's. also for 2000, they still had the black/gray harness.

man.. i wish i had that part number when i had my cdchanger.. the cable on mine was freaking long as hell.. like 8ft..!!
