happened to my friend on his corolla....pulled the ebrake to park and sometime between the time he parked and the time he was leaving his ebrake cable snapped so it locked his rear brakes. i've never heard of anything like it before but i saw it with my own eyes.....but i bet yours is a busted shoe like said above

nut???
do you mean the thin little metal thingy. just break it off with pliars.
you will have to fight with the drum to get it off. sometime a light tap with a hammer around the entire drum helps.

Probably about 75-100 plus shipping from a wrecking yard (that would include the spindle I believe.)

line it up with the studs and give it a nice push and it should pop right on, unless your shoes are too far out.
yeah, driving around without back brakes sucks. takes a lot more effort to stop. i drove around in my monte without effective back brakes for a while because they didn't feel like working well after i went in there and put new axle gaskets in and my dad and i couldnt figure out why there were problems.

if the shoe is stuck there it will be hard.
there should be a way to loosen the shoes from the back, it involves the star wheel, but im not completely sure without looking at it.

The star wheel that racer is talking about is just above the 2nd spring behind the drum plate... it is essentially the ebrake adjuster. the problem is that it is behind the drum plate.
I can't think of an effective method to help you get that plate off, cause everything to release it is behind it. Sorry dude... good luck

there is a piece of rubber back there a rubber plug. Get that out and it exposes the shoe adjuster. Take a screw driver and spin the adjuster. This should losen the tension with the shoes on the drum. Then pull the drum off and you should see the guts of it all and the broken shoes.
good luck
