Some quick questions I couldnt find answers for

Post by rannox » Tue Apr 03, 2007 8:02 pm

Does any aftermarket srt exhaust manifold fit a 2.0 sohc?

Whats a good size turbo other than the stock srt (what is the stock srt size anyways?)

Can u run a turbo on stock internals if you are running low psi? (like 2-5)

Is it really neccesary to go megasquirt with a ngc?

Does any cali native have any tips for passing emmisions? (remeber reading on one of the posts that turbos mess up ur emmision)

Any helpfull links or books you can reccomend about turbo builds?

Hope these questions are pretty staight forward and easy to answer. Thanks.

im running into the same issues maybe what ive found out so far may help,

right now im looking at the stock srt turbo at 5-8 psi, ive heard our motors max out at 260whp on stock internals. as far as megasquirt, it is your best option but to someone like me who right now has 1 car and cant afford alot of downtime im going with a RRFPR. the hahn racecraft turbo kit for the neons comes with a RRFPR. your going to need at least the stage 0 srt injectors, and the magnum intake, the stock intake in my mind is way to restrictive for a turbo but im sure in low psi's its doable. your going to have to run oil, coolant, lines as well as a return line for the RRFPR, theres a post that is stickied that goes though turboing the ngc's with the stock srt setup

If you're only planning on running 5psi stock internals will be fine.
Your stockintake manifold will be fine with that low psi. I would keep it even with 10psi. Makes some bottom end power compared to the indy.
I don't believe the srt turbo will bolt right up. I think there's an adapter to make it fit?
If you're only planning on running 5psi upgrading your fuelsystem and exhuast are really the only things you should worry about.
Helpful links: try the stickies on the top of this page as well as at neons.org lots of good info

thanks for the help,

Hopefully someone can answer my first question, cus i would rather by an entire aftermarket srt exhaust sytem and bolt the turbo on, rather than getting an adapter plate.

your going to need an adapter plate regardless because we have a different head set up than the 2.4 motor in the srt. The adapter plate is pretty cheap. A guy on the .org sells them. Try there and good luck with the build.

the 2.4 head and block are completely different from the 2.0 units, so the adapter is the only way to go if you want to run the srt turbo.

i hate the fact that its plastic, you think plastic, and u instantly think bad.

But plastic holds less heat than metal, and probably flows just as well.

so what i can do is get an aftermarket srt exhaust header + adapter, a 2.5-3in downpipe, and get like a t3 or t4 turbo? does that sound correct? (if i wasnt getting a stock srt turbo)

then get the lines and everyhting, srt fuel injectors, and run a fuel return line.

As for the intercooler. Ive notice ppl having a lot of trouble with srt intercoolers, like having to fab piping and such. A universal will fit just fine right?

You wouldn't be getting an aftermarket header but a turbo manifold. If you plan on using the stock srt turbo go with the stock srt turbo manifold.
If you're not getting the srt turbo there is no need for an adapter. Just get a turbo manifold made for a SOHC.

When I think header I think Naturally Aspirated. When I hear manifold, I think turbo.

yes and no. Yes, that is a really good price for a turbo manifold for our car. NO because it doesn't look like it will fit a SOHC. Looks like the bolt pattern is for a DOHC instead. Someone else chime in on this one cause I 'm not sure of my guess :slap:
