My 03 SXT used the stock air box with a hose from the snorkel to the front of the car for a cheap ram air kit. It made a hell of a difference over 60mph...and proof that it worked properly was by the debrise that was sucked in and sitting on the bottom of the airbox. It was definately a seat of the pants difference with a ram air setup. Seat of the paints power is around 10-15hp.
Now also take into consideration that I was using an ATX. So it was not 135hp at the wheels yet, if I remeber correctly an 03 2.0 ATX puts down around 105hp at the wheels. Thats with all accesories still hooked up and the power loss through the trani.

Im really interested in doing this. I dont think that many of these CAIs are very efficient design-wise. do you have any pics?brr wrote:My 03 SXT used the stock air box with a hose from the snorkel to the front of the car for a cheap ram air kit. pics of what I had on my 03 SXT?...no (DAMN CORRUPTED CDRW)
Basically what I did was:
1st - yank out the OEM filter and put in the K&N (leaving the lid off)
2nd - Jack up the car on the drivers side and turned the wheel all the way to the left
3rd - pop off the plastic push pins for the inner fender linner and pulled it as far out of the way as possible
4th - remove the 10mm screws holding the resonator to the chassis, and then slid it out
5th - take the 90deg plastic bend from the stock air box off and measure the outer diameter of the tube
6th - Goto your local Home-Depot and pick up some drier hose the size of your plastic pipe...EX - you have 3" outer pipe, pick up 3" inner diameter hose
7th - attach the hose to your 90 bend and run it down to the front of your car. Mine was attached to where a stock foglight would be. Secure it to your fascia and chassis so it does not move around
8th - re-assemble everything and you are all set.....

CAI (Cold Air Intake). The cooler the intake charge, the denser the charge. Higher density equals more power. If you draw warm air from the engine compartment, you don't get this effect. Stock 2GNs draw the air from the fender area for a reason.....cool air. Pull the restrictive resonater and slap in a K&N, keep the air filter top on...... or install a CAI, Iceman or AEM CAI. If the intake is in the engine compartment it's a WAI (Warm Air Intake). They make more noise, and don't increase power. You just sound faster.

'02 Plymouth ES, Stone White, ATX, free project.
'00 Chrysler LE. ATX (Fiancee's) stock. '02 engine from above car. Mopar springs, Tokiko Blues.

That has the air filter in the engine compartment. It will pull hot air. Atleast teh stock box pulls in cold air.Savior00 wrote:http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/ws/eBayI ... %3AIT&rd=1
