Well, as I should expect, Murphy's Law has kicked me square in the Jimmy when I least needed it to.
I thought the ACR had some piston slap after a recent oil change, so I changed to the Schaeffer's oil that Graham had been using, and it didn't go away. After working on it a bit and doing some more reading, I realized it's not piston slap. It's rod knock.
Anyone care to make me an offer? The engine will most likely need a bottom end rebuild, but I don't have time to rebuild it and I can't ship it to Texas. It still runs right now, but you don't want to drive with rod knock or eventually it will throw the rod.
Obviously the $5k firm is now whatever I can get for it, if I don't hear some reasonable offers from the forums I'm posting it on then I'll e-bay it.
It's now a heavily modified ACR that needs an engine, there's still $8000+ in parts on it that are perfectly fine, and I know you can get a 2.4L for like $500 and drop that in, or find an SRT swap for about $2k. This could be an even more amazing car than it ever was with a different motor in it, so is anyone interested?

Asked to re-open the thread for an update on the engine.

Interesting # 2 was good and #4 was perfect, in fact it looked like it had never been run. Sean was looking at the lower end kit with 10.5 pistons, rods, and crank. Not sure if it will smog with the 10.5 pistons though. I pulled the rockers first and the head looks good. The inside of the engine was very clean, and there was not any metal in the pan. If you changed the oil when it started knocking it must have drained the metal with it. We will do the head while it is apart. Also gets new clutch, water pump, timing belt and all other rubber parts. Should be good as new in a few weeks. I'll keep you in the loop.

why don't you build bottom end up ( without turbo) pass smog and then put turbo on it, it's like doing half the work but still passing smog.

yeah that's pretty much what i want to do. probly forged pistons and rods in the stock compression, so it doesn't run like shit without the turbo, and then run the srt turbo or log manifold. not sure what kind of fuel system to do yet, as i can't really do a standalone and pass visual inspection, but i dont want the rrfpr, cause i don't trust it's reliability. i can't afford to blow the motor with shitty fuel ratios. it looks like a piggyback like the greddy emanage or the portfueler are my best options right now.
