00 Stock neon faster than my 02 R/T

Post by BlackRoseRacing » Thu Apr 07, 2005 6:09 am

Explain this one to me......
2000 Neon stock plain jane w/ 63,000 miles on it pulled harder on accel and 0-60 seems faster than my 2002 R/T w/minor mods and 25k miles. Is it posssible I killed the performance of my car using the SRT Ex and a AIT mod. I know the K&N did not kill the perormance...

Two suggestions. Get rid of the AIT mod. You have richened up the fuel, beyond stoich. Change to NGK copper plugs. Your SRT exhaust has shifted your power band higher, and reduced your low rpm torque, drive accordingly. Supposedly the Neon PCM is rich at WOT, with the AIT mod you are running very rich at WOT. Also, your R/T is heavier than a base model.

In addition to what TomZ said, your PT wheels i believe are in the neighborhood of 20lb's each or a good 2 lbs more than stock wheels. Also if you have taller than stock tires, you'll be slower.

As of now the AIT mod is turned off....
im using 215/45/16 tires.....
according to the title my car weighs 2643lbs...
Exhaust weight should be close between the 2 since the SRT back half is lighter than the stock muffler..and the single glasspack is close to the same weight of the stock resonator.......
As for the wheels....the ones im using now are lighter than what I took off...or atleast it felt that way...

What do you mean the AIT mod is turned off? Isn't it just a ohm resistor stuch into your sensor?

how about you remove the AIT mod completely as it serve no purpose other then to dump more fuel then needed. and as stated the srt ex kills your low end but boost the high end. i just put a srt catback on my 02 r/t and i noticed a slight decrease off the line.

Yeah dude, just take the AIT mod off. All it is doing is making you run too rich, running too rich will make you lose power.

Well...
Today I reinstalled my NGK iridiums...and Mopar Perf. wires.Hooked the laptop up to my car and tuned it using ScanTool.net's software. While monitoring the sensors I noticed that the computer at idle and throttle was trying to add more fuel, fuel trim was at 1.5-3.5%+. I adhusted the AIT sensor until the fuel trim was at a steady 0.0% and then took it for a test drive.
Talk about a difference, the car pulled hard up to 60mph, and that was only using 2 gears and driving in a 30mph zone.

As of last night(april9th) my car is dead even in accel as a 97 60kmile dodge stratus w/2.5 V6 ATX. I figured thats about right for this car.

Ok,
There is a sticky post over in the engine section about the latest with the car. YES the AIT mod is now OFF.....

Im one of those people that has to be proven that something does not work from personal experience. The only advantage to the AIT mod is
0-60, since it brings the fuel and spark curve down....more details over in the Engine section.
