Quick question

Post by Cbussilver01es » Sat Apr 14, 2007 12:44 pm

Now this isnt really a turbo question, more like an opinion. As of right now my car has an Ported head with crane springs and retainers, with a 98 R/t Block, that I want to eventually boost. I have the srt turbo/Manifold and oil lines and etc.. My question is what would be a better route to go in your opinion?, build up a new 2.0 Sohc with the turbo and drop it in, to build a 2.4 with srt internals and drop it in, or to work with my current motor and boost it? Im just tryin to figure out what would be the best route to go, since I drive it everyday. Thanks

If you want to use the SRT turbofold, stick with a DOHC. Past that, pick your poison. 2.4 will have more torque and spool the turbo faster. 2.0 will rev higher. With decent head work, I'd see no problem with revving your current motor over 8k.

Really? Hmm I guess I didnt think of that. I guess it would be a matter of picking your poison. Ive heard so many war stories about the pros and cons of boosting a 2.0 vs a 2.4. Some have said the 2.0 is more of a headache, and other say the 2.4 is..

Just keep in mind that turbo is going to run out of steam early on either motor, and regardless how high you spin it, you're going to stop making power around 7.

from my personal experience, stay away from the SRT turbo. Its a great turbo for the SRT since it runs outta wind just before the SRT redlines. Our engines, or higher reving, kinda of a lousy turbo.
