Adding Air Conditioning To An 03 SE. Feasible?

I'm looking for another Neon for myself. I found a 16,000 mile, 5-speed SE for $5000. Very clean but a base model car with no A/C.

Has anyone else added A/C to their car?

It's very doable, bit of money and time to do, but can be done.

I think "scneonchic" is selling a complete A/C set-up BTW

I swear that ALL neons came with A/C. It was more to have it removed at time of purchace IIRC

It shouldnt be too hard to too.

Anyone have any more specific info on this? How hard is the install? Is it worth it to pay a mechanic? I'm lookin at an 02 srt swapped neon but it's got no a/c or cruise. I've heard cruise is easy, but I'm not so sure about a/c.

According to my 2002 US brochure, A/C was optional on the base Neon, included with Neon SE, Neon ES and Neon R/T models, and available as part of the Driver Convenience Group package on the Neon ACR.

Correct, it was optional on the SE through 05.

The hardest part is going to be installing the evaporator into the HVAC box inside the car. Otherwise everything else should be pretty staight forward....

right. windows. once it gets over 80 and I gotta drive an hour and a half on the freeway...hec, once it gets over 85 and I'm driving to Safeway I want my A/C.

So, I'll probably skip on this srt swapped car and wait for a black one with a/c and sunroof next year.

If anyone else is interested, search www.seattle.craigslist.com for "srt" under the cars category. There's a patriot blue neon with a full srt swap. the swap has a total of around 30k miles. He only wants $8300 for it.

I love to do-it-myself as much as the next guy, but it may be less hassle to find a nice Neon with A/C. 16K miles for 5G is a pretty good deal. I just think it would be easier to keep looking.
