weird noises

Post by flhmfd » Mon Apr 16, 2007 3:31 pm

ever since i put my suspension on its been making weird noises...it sounds like a god damn jack in the box...

its kyb gr2 struts with coil springs (similar to ground controls)

when i turn in parking lots or at low speeds i hear like a spring noise...like its twisting and i hear alot of banging from the front.

i didn't use the bumpstops:S or those metal things that came with the springs...any suggestions on what this is...cause its really pissing me off.

thanks

Could you describe the metal things? How long have you had the new set-up? Do you still have these metal things and bumpstops? Reason is that maybe the lack of bumpstops may have caused your strut to fully compress and possibly damage it. Look for leaking fluid on it or any noticable dents or damage. Then check your CV joint for any damage, creaking when you turn is usually CV damage. I'm curious as to what the metal things are, chances are if they came with the struts you probably needed them!
Also make sure your spring is fully seated on the strut. A freind of mine didn't have his in the proper position on his Honda and it made a strange noise when he drove around. He had to take it off and twist the spring around on the strut until it seated right and put it back on...no noise.

Oversteer is when you hit the wall with the back of the car. Understeer is when you hit the wall with the front of the car.
Horsepower is how fast you're going when you hit the wall, and torque is how far you drag the wall with you.

the metal things came with the springs. there like metal tubes about 2 inches tall that somehow work with the springs but they woudn't fit...

i do have damage to one cv boot now, but the springy noises were there before that.

The CV damage was after the new set-up? If so it may be a snowball effect of something not right in the set-up. If everything was installed properly and no damage to strut itself then Get the CV fixed and see if you can put the bumps back in, see if that does it. You got a pic of the metal tube thing by chance or a site with a pic? What springs and type are they?

i ahve kyb's on unknown lowering springs and when i turn also say in a parking lot or at those speeds i get like a popping and creaking sound from the right front ...its done it for over a year now and i had it looked at he said just spray sum lubricant on everything and it will prolly stop... i assume its just the spring movin in the strut dish... i just ignore it now personally... no actual problems have been caused because of it
IF IT AINT BROKE DONT FIX IT...

What coil springs similar to Ground Control do you have?

It may be that your springs are spinning in the seat and causing that sound......spring binding. That tends to happen alot with cheap stuff
