Yea, you know, it sucks, but the media over advertises crap like this. There are/were alot of school shootings before and after columbine. I HATE how they pic and choose what to air on the news.

I've been talking about this at work all day....

My thoughts go out to the family.

Remember in the good ol days when you had a problem with some one and needed to get rid of your bottled up rage you punched them in the face, then usually had a good ol fashioned brawl. I think we need to get back to basics instead of going all terrorist/shooting spree on people.

sounds like a plan to me.
whats wrong with kicking the shit out of someone. definitly sounds like a better option than killing 31 people and then you end up dead.

too many emos in the world.

edit: the other thing that gets me is this guy was running around shooting people for 3 HOURS, so much for campus police.

I'll be praying for all of the students and families of Virginia Tech that got affected by this. :( What is wrong with society these days?

Just a year ago, a parent shot himself and both of his sons attending Shepherd College in WV in broad daylight outside. That was awful too. :(

:pale: not sure what to think of the world anymore. Its gotten so bad that even my friends and I can't walk down the street without getting a dirty look. We need to go back to basics for sure. I'd rather watch two guys beat the living crap outta each other than CNN reporting 33 dead at one of our nations respectable institutions.

and this is why i have my gun collection started, sigma 9mm, ar-15, baby eagle(40mm), kel-tec, and i have at least 2-3000 rounds for each gun.

Fiance says I am crazy, family says its too much, but when stuff like this happens I am glad I have the right to bare arms and conceal carry.

bah, I heard some wierd comments in this thread, and I will touch a few - I think that there is still hope for humanity. We are capable of great evil, like killing 33 people and ourselves because of some disillusions about people, but we are also capable of great good. And I think there is more good in people than evil... just people are in general selfish.

Truth, there has been schol shootings before columbine, and after, but columbine was one of the worst in our nations history. Plus everything behind columbine, the reasons those poor kids killed everyone - it was a tragedy all around. This shooting goes to show that no matter what, there will always be people who are complete dicks (pardon my french) to others and then wonder why stuff like this happens. Then there are those who take that stuff from people and bottle it up and explode. Neither is right, and neither is healthy.

I think that what this world needs is exactly what John Lennon said - "All we need is love". Martin Luther King believed in nonviolence, and advocated for peaceful sit-ins, marches, and protesting - why? Because he firmly believed in humanity and love. I think the world is lacking love. The next time you feel like saying something mean to someone because of how they made you feel, don;t say it, and instead say something nice to them, sincerely. See what it does.

That is what this world needs more of. LOVE. Call me a hippie or whatever, but I think it is what was missing. This kid who did these awful things was crying out for attention, and never got it because people thought him not worth it, or rude, or strange, or hopeless... maybe people lost faith in him and therefore he lost faith in humanity. Do you think he cared the first time he pulled that trigger? Or do you think he maybe felt relief and freedom for the first time in his life. Sad, if you ask me.

Try loving your neighbor, and not just the person next door.

And even if he didn't, if he was so intent on killing people he would have got the guns. Do you really think that "most" criminals buy their guns legally? NO. They laugh at the fact that people want to ban guns. This way they don't have to be scared of us. Me on the other hand, I pray for the poor soul who tries anything like this towards my family or I while at the house or while I am out.

Did anybody see the video that the killer made and sent into NBC himself. He killed the two in the dorm and then made the tape, then proceeded to kill all of the other innocent people. I think that kid was just plain nuts after watching the video.

I am on a big college campus, and everybody was stunned by this. I really noticed how easy it is to gain access virtually anywhere on campus :? Today they did a reverse emergency test where they called dorms and even students cell phones in case an entire lock down was necessary.

The incident at VT was indeed a horrific event.

a thing i dont like about this is how the school is getting blamed for not bein secure enought...no school will ever be secure enough so it is a 100% chance no one will get a weapon in to school..this could of happened anywhere

True you can't prevent it, thats impossible.

But there were 3 hours between the first and the last shots. Thats a problem imo.

Also, the time it took to lock down the campus was rediculous. But hopefully other schools will take this and learn from this so that if something like this happens again, better measures will be taken so that the loss of life is minimal.

the biggest problem that vtech ran into was that after the first shooting, they should have shut down the school... been on the news, whatever it took... say STAY HOME. That is the problem IMO. Honestly though, with 30k+ students and staff, yeah, hard to do. But still, no class, nothing for him to do. I think he would have tried to go somewhere else though. The dude was a bit nutty, very unfortunate too.

I agree that it is a very unfortunate situation and my thoughts are with the victims and their families.

However, I can not fault VT that much as far as not going into full lockdown mode. From my understanding the first incident appeared to be a domestic situation. There was no inclination at that time that anything else was going to happen. I do think that there should of been some kind of mass anouncement/release though.

After seeing his, as NBC is calling it, "manifesto" this morning that guy was a f0cking loon and it's people like him that make me glad I'm doing what I am.

This is such a horrendous act and the crazy guy that did this definitely needed attention with his mental problems. He was probably feeling isolated for so many years and he locked himself inside mentally. He went nuts and couldn't take it anymore. He really needed to go to a psychiatric ward to do something this awful...

Since the college I'm attending is only 4 hours of driving away from Blacksburg, we also felt the pain and suffering since it hit so close to home. Many students here also have friends attending VT and I know one but she's fine, thank God :(. Just the fact that this can happen anywhere, especially this close to our community, made many college campuses and many other schools seem a whole lot closer as a bigger community.

http://www.msnbc.msn.com/id/18143312/page/2/

I was reading the above article on msnbc.com which gives a detailed look at each one of the victiums lives and I couldnt help but be sad by the great people that the world lost that day.

Below is just one example
Liviu Librescu, 76, an engineering science and mechanics lecturer. Born in Romania, he survived the Nazi Holocaust and emigrated to Israel in 1978 before moving to Virginia in 1985.

An Israeli citizen, he had taught at Virginia Tech for 20 years and was internationally known for his work in aeronautical engineering.

"His research has enabled better aircraft, superior composite materials, and more robust aerospace structures," said Ishwar Puri, the head of the engineering science and mechanics department.

Librescu family via AP
Liviu Librescu
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

After surviving the Nazi killings, Librescu escaped from communist Romania and made his way to the United States before he was killed in Monday’s massacre, which coincided with Israel’s Holocaust Remembrance Day.

Librescu's son, Joe, said his father's students sent e-mails detailing how the professor saved their lives by blocking the doorway of his classroom from the approaching gunman before he was fatally shot.

“My father blocked the doorway with his body and asked the students to flee,” Joe Librescu said from his home outside Tel Aviv, Israel. “Students started opening windows and jumping out.”
