Stone White Yellowing?
Stone White Yellowing?
Has anybody's stone white started to yellow? My rear bumper is becoming discolored and it is rather annoying. I was just wondering if any others were in the same boat as I?

As much as I love autopia, I doubt that a polish will help, as it is the bumper is molded in that color, and it is just aging. I don't think it will be too much money to get your bumper(s) resprayed, thats what I would do.kplaya186 wrote:IDK I think a good polish will help mine. I posted a question about yellowing white paint at Autopia.org and they told me to clay bar then polish. I am going to give that a try and see what happens.

the only thing that will help it ... is get a plastic cleaner / polish from 3M .. the same kind of stuff that we use on our headlight lens .. and just polish the bumper back up .. and put another coat of polish on top of that ..
it won't be a perm fix ... but it will have it looking nicer for a while ..
but painting the bumper is the best option ...
the claybar would work .. 'if' our bumpers were painted .. but a fair majority of the bumpers from the 00 to 02 line were dyed plastic .. with a few colors being the exception tho ... but the main colors like black, white, red and silver (maybe one or two others) ... had dyed bumper...

Crap, I've been wondering about this same thing. My mother has an 02 Stratus in white and you can see that the bumpers are a slightly different color. When it has just been washed, you can see it clearer.

I know my Silver Neon has painted bumpers, there is a tiny, tiny paint chip on the front of mine down to the plastic and i can see the plastic is a different color than the paint. However my friends black 01 neon has dyed bumpers and his front bumper is about 1 shade lighter than the rest of the car.

thats the case for an aftermarket part yes ... and a few oem parts that are purchased on their own .. but quite a few neons came with bumpers that were dyed the color of the rest of the car and polished up ... after a while that polish job started to fade .. and it is a lot harder to 'just repolish' them ...Hudson_Neon wrote: ^^^ as far as the one shade lighter thing... that's a primer that is on the parts when they come, it is indeed roughly "one shade lighter" than the normal black (PX8)

posting that in refrence to what i am talking about ... tho it may not be the exact case for this person's situation ...

Judging by your sig, it looks like yours is 'greening' more than 'yellowing'.kplaya186 wrote:Has anybody's stone white started to yellow? My rear bumper is becoming discolored and it is rather annoying. I was just wondering if any others were in the same boat as I?
