My car died...kinda

Post by DJ CptnCrnch » Sat Apr 21, 2007 6:16 pm

So last night i was driving home after a fine night of bowling. The car started fine. After driving about 5 mins i turned onto a street and gave it gas as usual. The car went into almost like a limp mode. I could rev it really high, but the car wouldnt move. Idle was horrible, so i just barly got it into a parking lot and then it was fine. I shut everything off, checked for a code, and nothing came up. So i drove home and that was the last time that happened. This morning i took it to work w/o a problem. Any guesses what the hell happened to my car last night.

It did throw code p0172 last week after i let my little bro drive it. All i did was reset the computer, and it hasnt come back. Not sure if this had anything to do wiht ^^ ( i did a search on this code, and didnt come up with much, the last post was about a maybe a MAP sensor, but they reset the computer and it was fine)

Thanks

Matt

bad gas...??? you can get dirt in your gas which would clog an injector, or pick up particles which just plan out mess with the fuel flow... I've had it happen maybe twice over 8 years (and two neons)
something like that happens I'll throw a injector cleaner in with my fuel and seems to take care of the problem...

This is just my thoughts on what you've told me...

It's an NGC thing. All 03+ non-Magnum cars have that problem. (I only say non-Magnum because I haven't heard of this issue with the Magnums yet). You're lucky if this is the first time your car has ever done it. Mine does it, but only once in a great while. I had my PCM firmware updated at the dealership and that did help, but it still didn't completely eliminate it.

so more importantly, how did you bowl?

j/k

ive noticed a mild hesitation every now and again, but if i stay in the gas it makes its way through it.

haha i bowled awesome...im a pro

ok its happening more today. I would shift into gear, then give it a little gas, and there will be a hesitation (is that spelled right) and the idle will be bad for a second. Do u think its a problem with the spark plugs? Maybe the clutch is going

It happened to me earlier today. I downshifted from 4th to 3rd and felt no power at 3000 rpm. Went away after a second though.

ok...sorry to bring this back from the dead....my car threw this code again and now the car runs like crap. once the car warms up there is really bad knocking and i cant drive it for more than 5 mins before it dies. What could be causing this. I checked the spark plugs and they were really black, so im gonna replace those tomorrow. i also thought about cleaning the air filter. I heard the MAP sensors usually dont go, but could that be my problem...what about the o2 sensor....would any of this cause the knocking.

ok i had the car towed to the dealership and they said my fuel pump went bad, so they . They also said my car was out of gas . They ended up replacing it and now they said the car idles really bad...not really sure whats going on with it, but they were asking out my R/T intake manifold and the computers that controlled the butterfly valves. I think they are trying to not warranty out my car. They said they have to work on it after the holiday. ugggg im not happy driving a rental car...grrrr

So did they figure out what the problem was? With the plugs being black, my guess would be the pressure regulator/filter assy on the fuel pump assy. Which could explain why it still ran like crap after they replaced the pump, if they didn't replace the regulator. Just my speculation though.

Which has absolutely nothing to do with the intake, as far as warranty goes.
