I may be making one VERY huge decesion....
-Cgpeon- REALLY inspired me when he went off and sold his neon, worked his ASS off, and bought his SRT-4.
I was browsing DNO today, and came across a mint silver SRT-4. A nice amount of engine mods, only 12,500 miles, and he's only asking $1,000 more than I paid for my neon a year ago. Not to mention, it actually has a few hundred less miles.
I want that car needless to say the least....
This all got me to thinking too. As it stands, I owe $11,000 on my neon. I know I could never, EVER get that money back. But if I started to sell of every single aftermarket part on my car, i could drop that price to $8,000-$9,000.... and I'm very confident I could get that asking price out of a perfect body neon with only 20,000 miles if I threw it up on Auto Trader or something similar.
In my mind, I could sell off all my parts, take the car to 100% stock, continue to make payments on the car and use every last cent I make from my parts into paying it off. Get the price I owe on it WAY down... Post it up for sale, get rid of it, drive the escort (like I already do) and work OT to save up money as a down payment on a private party SRT.
This would take months of corse.... Alot of hard work on my part to get my car to 100% stock... alot of pain in the ass of selling my parts off... but I could do it. I KNOW I could do it.
Hell, I've always told myself to. If I owned a fast car, I'd make it look slow... which means I'd stop throwing so much money into looks and what not. It MAY actually end up saving me money in the long run...
What do you guys think? Should I go for it? Or try to keep pushing on with the neon I have....

You know what my vote is.
The thing is, you OWE alot of money on your SXT. But You could get around 8-9k for it like you said and you could start over with an SRT-4. Try SRTforums.com Thats where I got my used SRT-4.
Don't buy from a stealership either unless you can get a decent APR rate.
Check your finances and insurance..
Good luck with all your sales.

Complete situation....
I bought my car a year ago for the sole reason of buidling my credit up. I owened a 2001 Chevy Cavalier for a year and a half, under my fathers name. Only thing was, I was building HIS credit, not mine, and to get the title switched over to me, would of increased my monthly payments.... so I sold it, and bought the neon blindly. (live and learn... right?)
It's now a year later, and I have never missed any payments. With negative trade in on the Cavalier, I bought the neon for $14,800. I've had no problems paying MORE than my montly payments, and modding it this entire time.
Now it's time to get an apartment, which means more bills. That basically means I have to STOP modding the neon. IF I were to buy the SRT-4, chances are I'd just drive it happily. No need to mess with perfection too much, right?
My SXT is giving me headache after headache and honestly throwing me into depression every once in awhile becuase of all the things that constantly go wrong when I'm trying to mod... But once it's done and over with, I'm happy.
I also sit here and DREAM of owning a SRT, becuase hell the hell here DOESN'T want one, right?
In terms of money, I have no problems with starting over basically. As long as I buy it for around $14,500, I can do it NO problem.
The main question: Is it going to be worth tearing my neon down to stock, working my ever living ASS off, to own this car?
**EDIT** Krack, you're right... I can't. I'll be the first to admit that.
I'm the type of kid that wants anything and everything. Since I'm basically starting over with the neon, i gotta figure out WHERE to go with it.

just take your time and sell/part out fairly no need to get rapped on the money you just spent, and try to sell the car for its full value, unfortunally people have a hard time selling fully swapped cars for that price so you are going to either have to bring it back to full stock or lower that price.
good luck on what you FINALLY decide.

Opi, Opi, Opi
you know that you cannot leave a car stock... period.
i would love to have an srt also, but its not something that i really need. so my plan is to go for a swap first. of course the situation needs to be analized... at least you already have a car that you could drive during the downtime... but if a swap is too much for you, why not wait another year? you pay off some more on the neon then take all your stuff off of it, sell it and put the stuff on the srt.
those are the two options i'm going with... either put an srt engine in my neon or put all my cosmetic/suspension stuff on an srt

Well, the srt wouldn't be 100% stock... but after my little escapade with my car being broken into, I don't want it to stand out like crazy. I can't even enjoy my damn neon now, becuase I feel anywhere I take it, it's going to get broken into.
Andddd I know nothing about swapping a motor... soooooo that's kind of out of the question. (Nor do I know local people to help me with it)
*twitch* I just want to be able to enjoy having a newer car again!

another option is sell all the major stuff. and drive your car.
maybe do some little stuff like me. drive around in a stock bodied neon. wont draw too much attention, except the color.

I think that you you were to buy the SRT-4 you would find yourself in a worse situation than you already are in. Keep your SXT and build your funds back up buy selling your aftermarket parts, and work your way back to a Semi-stock car. Once you get the car back to that stage, keep it for a while, just putting money into it for maintenance. If I am understanding your situation correctly, now is not the time for the SRT-4. The SRT-4's insurance costs are going to dig you further and further into the hole that you are already struggling to climb out of.

if modding is your problem. then maybe sell the parts, and car and pay off the loan and drive around in the escort for a while. then when you get yourself back together buy a nice car.
but you have to wait until after carlisle to sell the car.

Ok I'm going to come off sound like my dad. But I found that he knew what he was talking about so here goes.
We can't make that choice for you. All we can do is be here for you.
Thats said I know say this.
You will go upside down on gettin a SRT4. My best guess your neon/SRT4 will end up costing you somewhere around 32k when all said and done.
Your a crack head like the rest of us when it comes to our cars. Even if came with 500hp and was tricked out more then a hooker on 14th st. You will still spend more then a G on it.
Place of your comes with many, some hidden cost. You best understand what thinks are going to cost.
An if you lost your Job could you make your car payment, rent payment and insurance payment for 2 months.
Buying shiney things help keep deperession away till the high wears off. I know this cause I've done it. But what you going to do when you hit bottom again.
