2-ways, 3-ways, or 4-ways

Post by o2bfishn » Mon Apr 30, 2007 6:54 am

want to replace the stock speakers in the front doors. if i leave the tweeters hooked up on the dash and get 4 ways for the door, will i be loosing anything in those speakers? should i just get 2-ways or 3-ways instead? do neons have some type of filter that sends all the highs to the tweeters on the dash? is the stock setup considered component speakers?

With 3 or 4-ways, you'll be over-powered by highs (along with the stock dash speakers). I'd ditch the stock dash speakers, and go with a decent set of components.

but couldnt you consider whats in there now as components? a tweeter up front and a woofer or 2-way in the door. i mean what kind of speaker is in the door now? and is the one in the dash a true tweeter?

the one in the dash is not a true tweeter .. it is just a small cone speaker ...

so i should ditch the dash and door speakers and get a set of component speakers? will that require any rewiring or will the crossover take care of that? what about the rear speakers? i have read to use 6.5s back there instead of the 6x9s. any thoughts on that?

anything beyond coax speakers(two way) is just marketing hype usually.

the decision to use components is a matter of personal opinion. I have components in my car and I'm getting rid of them to go back to normal coax speakers(triax 6x9'x because i cant get the speaker i want in coax)
