this is what i want to buy
this is what i want to buy
ok, i have never heard of this brand before and while the prices are pretty inexpensive i don't want to fall victim to the "you get what you pay for" adage, so tell me what you think. i'm not in this for winning car audio sound contests or anything like that, i'm just driving to work and want better sound and a nice setup in my car.
so, i found onlinecarstereo.com and picked out some Boss Audio speakers and receiver, tell me what you think
components

6x9 rear deck
http://www.onlinecarstereo.com/CarAudio ... ctID=18254
receiver
http://www.onlinecarstereo.com/CarAudio ... ctID=17515
one other thing, based on the wattages of these components what size amp should i get? i'm not getting a subwoofer yet so would a 2 channel 800 watt amp be good? or something else for when and if i do get a sub?

biggrobb - thanks for your reply
aquariuskid - thanks but if i do get an amp, im gonna get one to match all the other components, good luck though.
ok, not buying a subwoofer yet, if i do at all, what i wanted to know was that with the speakers chosen would an 800 watt amp be sufficient? do i need an amp at all?
component speakers handle 380w peak
6x9s handle 480w peak
receiver puts out 4x60w (does that mean 60 watts to each channel? front l+r, rear l+r. and if so, the speakers are definitely underpowered. did i just answer my own question?)
i just want an amp that will do the trick. i really do not think i will ever get a sub, but if i do i wont mind getting a second amp then.
also (and maybe this should be another thread) if i dont have a sub, are 6x9s the best thing for the rear desk? i have heard of people putting another set of 6.5 back there. any thoughts on that?

ok so first off here is what you should check out, at least imho...
1. what is the RMS handling of those speakers? you know when you goto the store and see those mini shelf stereos with 1000watts of power! yeah lie, those things put out so little RMS which is the number you should be more concerned with. just because our speakers can take "380" watts of max power doesnt mean it can handle the right amount of power in terms of RMS.
2. what do you normally listen to in terms of music? rap, rock, country....if you listen to a bit of everything, then i would suggest spending a bit more on some quality 6x9s in the back, reason being these help the most with midbass...and if you dont get a subwoofer you will be glad you got good 6x9s so you can have good sound, no you wont be able to rattle the car next to you, but it will sound very nice inside, which is all that matters right?
3. headunit...the site said 60x4 watts...i dont even think the headunit is mosfet...idk if that even really matters anymore considering everything comes from china, but for 110 on that headunit, go check out circuit city, i got a very nice sony headunit 52x4 w mosfet, mp3, the works for 135...again it goes back to the rms your headunit puts out, and i have a feeling that the one you want isnt going to live up to anything special.
now because you might spend a bit more money on the speakers, and the headunit...you can really save yourself alot of money, now i might get alot of crap for suggesting this but if you are just looking for a decent upgrade in sound quality/loudness/etc, dont buy an amp just yet to power the speakers...get the headunit installed, and try it out with the new speakers, heck try it out with the stock ones, the increase in power output will definetly make them sound better, you wont blow them (trust me, lol) and if you are content with the sound at that point, you spend way less and still achieve your goal
but anyways thats just my 2 cents...at any rate whatever you do you will love having better audio..makes the drive more fun, so goodluck!

yea before you rush out any spend a ton of money.. make sure you try what you buy, in with your current setup.. i'm not saying keep it stock.. but just go a step at a time until you get the sound you are looking for.. i know thats what i did.. took a while to find the setup i wanted..but this way i didn't spend nearly as much as i could have.. and got a Very Loud Soundsystem.
New Sig Time.
thanks guys i really appreciate your input and knowledge. i feel so old, you guys are my sons age, he just turned 20, but you are the ones who would know. maybe i should ask him what to get
i'll keep looking and post as needed. i might pm one or both of you guys if that is alright, if i have more questions, which i do
thanks again!

Trust me on this save your money and buy the better grade products if you buy 40$ speakers expect 40$ speakers . 9 times out of ten your just gona end up spending more money cuz your going to want to upgrade from the system your about to buy. I learned this the hard way
You won't regret it cuz even though you spent a little more cash youll be VERY pleased with the rewards
O and try www.sonicelectronics.com their price are better then crutchfield witch is over rated IMO
dumped on the daily grind

thanks for all the info. im definitely taking more time to look for what i want.
sonicelectronics.com is a nice site. i like that they offer installation kits on some of the head units. their shipping is higher than onlinecarstereo.com (they have a flat 9.95 no matter how many items and then free over 99 bucks total) but the prices are comparable
