Board is running slower than dial up...

Post by DjTransifi » Fri Apr 22, 2005 9:43 am

Diablo, you might want to research why the board is running so slow... I pinged your site and got time outs.. Just to make sure it wasn't me I pinged Yahoo and got 76ms time with not packet loss.. The board has been doing this more times than not lately. I thought it was because I was at work but its not. I'm able to go to any other website and it runs just fine but it took me over 5 ming just to log on and post this and I'm using my home computer on cable..

**Thats funny, not it running faster if not fine..**

I've noticed it also and I believe it's related to this...

http://forum.2gn.org/viewtopic.php?t=2001

If it continues for a couple more days I'll look into it more.

FYI, the host is now aware the problem myself and most of are you seeing. I am currently working on logging ping times to the forum to see when if it moves slow at any specific time of the day or if it's randomly happening throughout the day.

Please bear with me as I try to work with them to get it moving faster.

I'm leaving that up now until I see that the forum is moving faster without many down times ago.

Anyone seeing the forum move slow again within the past day? I don't have time to get on at work right now so I'm not able to keep tabs on it well.

Yeah I sent them another message. If they don't address these issues so they don't happen again I'm going to start looking for another place for 2GN b/c this is just getting stupid.

UPDATE!

After researching some new companies and coming across reviews of my current host I seem to notice a trend. Since I've been with them for about a year now it looks like the service has gone down A LOT. Many have complained about the fact that their SQL servers constantly go down (which explains why the forums keep going down and or moving slow) and their e-mail servers go down. Hmmm.... yeah so FYI everyone, expect 2GN to be moving again here in the future. After I do some more researching I'll be moving 2GN. As of rigth now I've got until next Friday to make a decision where I'm going so if you see 2GN go down all of a sudden it's because I'm in the process of moving it.

Me and my buddies have something that could be of some use to you. We run a number of websites and recently bought a lifetime vbulletin license for a friend that wanted to start up a website. He is a complete web n00b and thought he can do everything himself.

Basically his project failed and we are left with an extra vbulletin license. its yours if you want it. Only stipulation is that you have to share a vbulletin.org login with me as we have multiple websites registered under one name and it only allows for 3 other logins under "staff member" status. Let me know if your interested. I can even help you import this them to vbulletin.

Well... I would really like to take you up on that but the host that I have in mind right now that is getting great reviews and has some very good features for the price won't allow VBulletin since they say that forum uses to many server resources. Looking into it further I found that other people that are hosting through them, when they put a VBulletin forum on their site they were contacted and told to get rid of it or leave. Don't really like that but as long as I don't use VBulletin it's all good and this host looks great, reviews are great, everything looks good with them. Maybe either Sunday or Monday I'll start getting the transfer ready if I decide to go with them.
