Post by jj71787 » Thu May 10, 2007 5:28 pm

i have a 2000 dodge neon automatic and was wondering a few things can you make an auto go faster by using boost or turbo?
also i have a foggy headlight how can i clean it?
is there anyway to get out key scratches or would i just need a paint job?
last question i just replaced the front passenger side arm of the car and now everytime i make a turn you can hear it make a clunk and another noise i dont know how to describe when i turn the wheel.

there is alot of things you could do to make your car go faster.... lol like a Manual Transmission swap Hahahah (that is serious, but I find it funny) Anyway... there is a search feature at the top that you should check out cause there is alot of info here for you to look through.

nope!!!
We've got a whole range of neons here from 2000+

a few of us have done SRT swaps
other do have SRTs
but for the most part I think they are mostly base/mid model neons

um.... alright
try looking into things such as:

MTX swap (manaul trans. swap)

these go for all neons
CAI (cool air intake)
exhausts
- lots of info on this
suspension and brake ideas
- such as an SRT Brake swap
- lowering springs and struts

there is atleast one member, can't remember his name that is posting in either the progress / project section or forced induction section that has turbo'd an ATX (automatic)

That should be good for starters (I hope)

you can built up the 3spd trans you have. google for parts or ask your local transmission shop.
jj71787 wrote:also i have a foggy headlight how can i clean it?
you can clean them by wet sanding them with 2000 grit. although, the down side of it is that, it takes 4hrs to do each headlight. i would rather just get depo headlights. use google because i forgot the website.
jj71787 wrote:is there anyway to get out key scratches or would i just need a paint job?
they can be buffed out.

could be a few things, the ball joint or the control arm bushings. go to energysuspensionparts.com and order the complete set of bushings. they will also last longer than the stock ones you currently have.

Out of the 7 boosted hondas that friends of mine own (can't convince them to go domestic for shit), the most consistant, lowest maintenance/repair cars are the 2 with automatics (ex civic and a v6 accord). On that same note, the most powerful/quickest are the manuals. IDK how neon automatics hold up to power, but i'm sure you'd have to do some tranny work at or around the 200HP mark, if not before (which is pretty much as soon as you put the turbo setup on and tune it).

I have the 2000 neon, and to me it would make more sense to go and buy the 2.4 SRT engine and tranny swap...it's what im doing when I get the money.

you do have a point. but if you buy a totaled SRT you get everything that works from that car. I understand it might be worth more than our cars but it's a hell of alot cheaper than buying an SRT. but if you just want to do that stuff to your 2.0 than power to ya. but from what ive heard people have had bad experiences turboing their 2.0's just my 2 cents is all...gl with what ever you do.

you can get some improved performance out of UDP, CAI, exhaust, etc... but if you want serious improvement, then the SRT swap is the way to go.

for the key scratches, you could get some scratch removing paste and buff it in like a wax and then wax over it afterwards. That should get the majority of it out, depending on how deep they are. Or maybe buffing/polishing compound.

you can always try sanding the are, and get some color match, and touch it up. (thats only in the extream sence though, and probly wont look very good, specially if its your first time doing it.)

3 speed autos have much more upgrade possibilities than the newer 4 speeds, just do some google searching, or look on neons.org

And dont turbo your car unless atleast get forged rods (aparently they are neons weak spot). Id reccomend pistons 2, but then youl be spending alteast 2 grand.

gl with the car.
