how are these parts lists for repairs? and general questions

i -still- need to get some work done on my car, but i have not had, and will not have the money for it but i need to at least start planning it out... i need to do it as cheap as possible... and i need to try and do it myself even though i wont have a clue what im doing, other than following service manuals and forum posts... which dont exactly tell you every small detail or problem that you might run into..

basically i REALLY need to do my driver side axle before it just snaps in half... i can turn my wheel 2" to 3" when jacked up.. when it only had "a little play" when i failed my inspection back in december... i dont know what other damage might be down there, so i was planning on doing the tie rod end also (i had already replaced this tie rod end last summer)

but i figured i should do both sides at the same time, even though its more expensive at least they will both be serviced

now from reading it sounds like ill end up losing a bunch of tranny fluid in the process, so i was figuring i might as well try to just change the fluid, period. so in the parts list is a filter kit that has a new gasket.. i guess thats what i need.

other than the filter kit and tranny fluid, will i need anything else?

i dont know if my rotors need to be replaced, but i figured that since they will be off anyways i can do them too.. because im going to change the pads also.. so ill have "like new" brakes, sorta anyways

so other than the rotors, pads, brake fluid, and maybe new caliper bolts, will i need anything else?

i just quickly read about flushing the brake fluid alltogether, said every 25K miles i think, well my car is around 108K and i dont know what kind of service it has had so should i flush the brake fluid while im at it? other than another person to help do it, do i need anything other than brake fluid?


i think i also need some motor mounts, but i cant do those.

so you can pretty much see theres nothing above "basic" in this list... but is this ok? i know someone will probably say more expensive brake system parts, but i honestly cannot afford it.. im not just trying to be cheap or stingy.


is there anywhere i can get a remanufactured axle cheaper? a few months back there were some on ebay for like $35, but not there anymore :\ and the only ones on ebay now end up costing about the same as these, if not more. the only cheaper ones are junkyard pulls.. no thanks

are there any "better" parts you would suggest that are similar in price to these (not more than a few dollars difference)?

if you can think of anything else i might need or that i should do let me know... now that i actually have a driveway that i can work on my car in i need to try to get some stuff done.

oh, and, if anyone is around Worcester, Mass and wants to help me...................... :D hehe (or donate parts?)

when you do your brakes at the very minimum you need to turn the old rotors down so you have a fresh surface. if you dont you will be replacing your pads in short order. some rotors are beyond the point of being turned so they need to be replaced.

if your car is just a daily driver i wouldnt worry about flushing the brake fluid.

Unless track driven or the lines have air(should not get that unless you run out of fluid in the resevior or open the bleed valve) you should not have to bleed the brakes.
