SRTD and SRT4 exhaust differences

Post by slaw » Sat May 12, 2007 6:37 pm

ok im running an 05 ATX , ebay CAI and i removed my muffler and replaced it with an SRT4 rear section i got off ebay and when i went to a local autobody shop my friend works at i noticed they had a near totaled SRT design there, so i checked it out of curiosity and realized that the rear of the design's exhause has a muffler on top, and it has what appeared to be 2.25" pipes going thru the 3.25" chome tips, which im making the asumption that this is for noise reduction as well as styling purposes
for the little amount of mods ive done, would i be better off running an exhaust like that, because without the muffler mine is way too loud for me and it just doesnt seem as peppy on the throttle response as it used to when i ran it with the stock pipes and an ebay ram air intake

does anyone know where i could get one /and how much

basically, the srt4 catback has no muffler, has 2 resonators in its place. the turbo actually keeps the noise down. the srt-d neon, has a dual muffler set-up, simular to the r/t and acr's. the srt-d you saw, the muffler was alter'd, meaning he put bigger tips. you can put bigger tips but i would put the dual muffler back on but cut the tips off of the srt catback and weld them on to your muffler.

You could, but the srt section wont line up to the srt-d cutouts, and vise verse. If you feel like hopping fences and crap, just take it.

The reason it seems less peppy could be in your head  The srt-d muffler vs. srt4 outlet is noise mainly, but the muffler I think is the same one as the RT and ACR dual outlet muffler, expcet some differences in the piping on the outlet tubing, I think it is 2" vs. true 2.25" all the way out like RT/ACR.

What you could do is keep the srt rear section on and run a large glasspack in the place of the resonators on the straightpipe, that tones it down.
