Should i be worried...

Post by dansou5 » Thu May 17, 2007 10:31 pm

Does our engines not seem to be the best at idling? Mine seems to make a slight knocking sound when i am in the car at idle, but when i get out and listen under the hood i cant really hear it. So i dont think its coming from the head.

It also seems that the car likes to studier a little when it is just sitting there. I have new plugs, and wires, and it runs awesome at any other time just seems to be rough at Idle.

Anyone else experience this in the Neon

Just hope its nothing serious, and i want to figure it our before i start spending money on it.
:D

do you usually here it in the car. Its not that bad i just dont want to put money into it when there could be a problem, but if all have that noise then i think im good.

I test drove an 01 se neon before i bought the r/t, and it made the same sort of noise...

I too here this noise, I have been told that it's a very common thing among neons.

I hear it all the time.

If your neon motor is running quietly, then you should worry something is wrong

The ticking you hear inside the car is a bomb ready to go off........
ok maybe not, what you hear is engine noise amplified inside the interior. The interior acts like an AMP, it is actually amplifying the sounds you hear under neath the hood. So the tiniest noises actually sound worse inside the car Vs being underneath the hood.
Thats one of the reasons why I was able to hear my DIFF pin let loose and nick the housing in the trani, the car was driving perfectly fine and it was un noticable, but I heard a strange noise(amplified) wich led me to stopping the car to further investigate the problem before it got worse....ok now im rambling....

"Its a neon thing" :)

mines got the same thing. its not a knock like a tick, but almost like the car is "coughing" its really hard for me to explain it. But it does comfort me now knowing that it is a common thing among neon owners
