See the end sticking out of the bottom, I might be able to take some needle nose pliers and unscrew it.

I had my new valve cover on and I was just hand tightening the bolts, I noticed my torque wrench only does foot pounds and some other foreign one. Well I needed to torque the bolts in inch pounds so I converted inch pounds to foot pounds and it turned out to be 3.3 to all of them then 6.6, then 10.5. My torque wrench starts at 10 and what do you know, number one broke in the head.

Is there a way I can get this out? Or do I need a whole new head now.

Please help.

There's no reason to be torqing valve cover bolts. Snug with a hand wrench is good.

It looks like a little piece is hanging under the hole. You may be able to go from underneath with a pair of pliars and slowly back it out untill you can reach it from the top and then go at it from the top with pliars. A needle nose vise-grip is what id try.

If not you will have to drill it out or atleast drill a little hole in the center of it to fit a screw exstractor.

Thanks.

As for the torquing the valve cover:

I wish it had the same bolts as my 2.0, the 2.4 valave cover bolts are 8mm and skinny as hell. Just got done ordering one from the stealership, they will be getting it in tomorrow. $6 for one bolt.

I've removed and replaced literally dozens of valve covers on many different cars, some with cork gaskets, some with o-ring style. I've always hand tightened it. Just hand tighten it next time like he says. Valve covers don't see a ton of pressure, so hand tight is more than enough to keep them secure. Also if you use a medium to small ratchet, your hand can tell when it's good far easier than with a big ratchet.

Did the pliers work? I have some needle nose ones that have bent tips like these:

BTW, your cam lobes look a little worn... I can't tell too well from the picture...

no no no you need a whole new head!!

just playin. you should be able to back it out a litle from the bottom with that piece that is sticking out then use some pliars or somethign to get it the rest of the way. you didnt strip any threading or anything so you should be fine once you get the bolt out. if you still cant get it out they sell kits to get screws out that have been broken like that. you can usually find them at home depot and i think auto part stores too. it usually consists of a drill bit that you tap a hole in the middle of the screw with. then another bit that is a little bigger and will go into the hole and hook onto the screw and screw it out as you screw into the hole you made. if you ask the people for a kit that gets out broken screws they should be able to point you to them. just if you use one of the kits be careful not to mess up the threading in the hole when you do it. i had to use these to get the motor mount bolts out of my engine when they broke on me at the track. they work awesome.

Got it out! Used the needle nose plier and regular pliers. The thread looks a bit damage at the top but not bad at all... I put one of the other bolts I had in it and it went in and out fine..

go to a autoaoze or a parts place and get an extractor it will take a high speed drill and you should have it out in about 5 min the the other measurement is Nm newton meters
A unit of the meter-kilogram-second system equal to the energy expended, or work done, by a force of one newton acting through a distance of one meter and equal to one joule.
