Really? You guys think I shouldn't just try to fix it up? It was only $1,600, do you think I could get one in perfect condition for that?

usually good shape long blocks go between $1000 and $1500....i would suggest getting one of srtforums thought because then if you get screwed you'll know exactly who it was and where to go

Okay, so I'm having trouble getting the exhaust manifold off. I have a Haynes manual, but only for the Neon, and even that isn't descriptive with bolt locations. There is one bolt left that I can see holding it on, it is the second from the left on the bottom when looking at it from the exhaust side. I just can't get to it. It's probably something stupid, but can anyone help?

Dude, no way! File a claim. They never mentioned that the impact happened to be when they hit the bottom of that lake. That thing wont run all corroded like that. Boring out the pistons is common, now try boring out your valves and everything else, BLEGH. any ways good luck and I give you a thumbs up for ambition, I am rooting for you.

Okay, well I'm not hell bent on making this one work, I just want an SRT-4 motor in my car. If you guys think I have a good chance with getting my money back on it then I might just try that, but first I'd like to take a look under the valve cover and see just what the extent of the damage is. It's stripped though :-\

So how would you go about filing a "claim"?

dude i say get your money bak cause i know your not looking forward to putting out the money that is needed to make this work.

on the other hand if you really want to make it work i say take it to a shop and have them do a once over the motor to see if your going to have problems cause the motor might was pulled out of the car and they just sat it outside for a while and the condensation got to it.

i wish you luck what eva you decide to do.

worst case scenario you can deck the block and get a new undamaged complete head for like $200-$500 depending on mileage and condition

I was thinking about them, I drive past them every day to and from my house. Yesterday they had a bunch of blocks sitting in the gravel outside their place.

The motor looks a lot cleaner and in better shape when presented within the Ebay bid. I would try to get your money back and continue searching for a new motor.

Trust me, you don't want to learn the hard way, and spend lots of money trying to make something work. It may be a really good learning experience though.

1. if the motor was moving when it hit the water say goodbye to everything internal wise....

2. you should keep the tranny and sell the block, keep all the wiring etc... if you just sell the block with the turbo and everything attached you can prob get 700 cause no one wants a bare block with no turbo or anything... then go to srt forums and buy a block theres 2 on there right now 1 for 700$ and one for 500... bare blocks with the heads but no turbo i think

3. *ask more questions and for more pics when buying on ebay*

I had some1 on ebay sell me a bad motor for a WRX that i sold to one of my customers. I contact ebay and pay pal and filed a claim against them and showed proof that what they displayed on line was not what was sent to me. and i got my money back within 48hrs. I would seriously get your money back and do some junk yard diving.

Did you have to give the motor back though? It's not cheap to ship this thing around- it cost me $600 to get it here.

Wow thank you for the offer! I will see what becomes of this and let you know if I need to ship it. Again, I still want to check out the extent of the damage before I decide one way or another.

Got the valve cover off, and it doesn't look bad at all in there yet. It's like night and day on the inside and outside. I also got the transmission off, but I wasn't quite as pleased with the looks of it. There's quite a bit of rust and even some spiderwebs.

Yucky tranny!

Dude good luck with everything. I don't know what to say.... Personally if I was gonna spend $1600 on eBay I would ask a TON of questions. Might look good on the outside, but its whats on the inside that counts. It came from Florida, its so humid and wet out there, who knows how long that thing was sitting.

You will learn a TON from this expierence. Just take your time and do it right the first time.

File a claim with e-bay, like now. If you paid with paypal, file a claim with them too. Let them know that no one ever told you that it was rusted to all hell. I'm not a car pro, but I know that that engine will never run again. And what do they mean it was modded a lot, but the stock turbo was put back on. How did they end up with the stock turbo? Seems like they are just a parts yard.....

The new photo gallery is now online and fully functional, I recommend checking that out instead of looking at the thumbnails in this topic.

Update:
So now I'm just having some trouble getting off the 4 bolts that hold the clutch on, not even the torque wrench could budge them.

^^^ get a long breaker bar, they make some even longer than the big torque wrenches

you know, even if it was in the water or water, the engine and tranny had oil in them, which should still protect some areas for a while, so i bet it's not THAT bad... new pistons and rods are only 350 so that's not a killer expense.... i say keep it and just see if you can make it work... i bought my used tranny and axles and clutch for 750, so in the worst case, save the diff from the current tranny and sell it, and just buy another one...

with a little patience and some tlc you can bring it back... i dont know about these 1000 long blocks, i'd sure like to snap one up but they seem to only be available in people's stories....

Okay, I'm borrowing one from my supervisor tomorrow.

I was going at it today with the ratchet and I got one of them off, but the hardest part of it is keeping the engine from turning. I followed part of a how-to on SRTforums.com but I can't see how they wedged that screwdriver up under the crankshaft.
