Great color fish, fabricate a clear plastic center console and seal it up with water and put a bunch of those mugs in there.

Did you condition the water correctly when you put it in the tank? You really need to do that and put the bag that you got from Wally world (tied up, fish inside) on top of the water in the tank to equalize the temperatures so the fish doesn't die from shock. I liberated a beta years ago from Wal-Mart (becuse half in the display were already dead, and they just left them there...) and it lived over a year until i moved out and my mom flushed it lol. You have to read the directions on the water conditioning stuff (its like a little packet). It basically balances the ph of the water and gets rid of the chlorine in the tap water you put in.

I have a 75 gallon South American tank, need any advice, gimme a holla... I use to breed fishes as well: angelfish, african cichlids, and a score of other live breeders as well.

I have since changed it around - this was when I first moved over a year ago.... now it has no fake plants in it
I just needed filler at the time!

My Feedback: viewtopic.php?t=10552
1. fish was from petsmart, nto walmart
2. the water was the correct temperature
3. the water was conditioned
my mistake was leaving the plants in teh little plastic container. teh instructions never said to take them out, next time i will.

1. it doesn't really matter. both treat their fish horribly.
2. no it wasn't. you had the betta in a bowl. that means no filter and no heater. contrary to what they tell you at the pet stores, bettas are a tropical fish and prefer water temps in the 70s to low 80's, and work perfectly well in a full size tank. they do not like small tanks like they lead you to believe.
3. good to hear. if you don't have water conditioner, just leave it out over night. also don't use the pH adjuster crap, it doesn't work long term. just get some amquel or something like that and it will be fine.
i honestly doubt that the plant is what killed him. the gel that the plants come in is a non-toxic gel so it didn't polute the water. you had mentioned something about it getting stuck in the gel, not sure how that would happen since bettas are not a species that digs, nor are they plant eaters so he wouldn't have been going after the roots or anything. you probably just got a sick fish, it happens all the time.
sorry to be so blunt about it, but i have spent a lot of time housing and breeding fish, bettas being one of them. nothing drives me more nuts than hearing some of the crap that comes out of the mouths of pet store employees about their care.

Does anyone know that it is pronounced Bet-ta, like in better, not bay-tuh, like in beta? Just curious
