My new $100 beater.........

Post by lambostealth » Wed Jun 20, 2007 8:35 pm

Ok, so my neighbor is leaving for the Army. He told me months ago that he will sell me his car for $200, I said, cool, just let me know when you are leaving.

So a month later, he asks if I still want it, I said, let me take it for a drive, and I'll let you know. I get back from the drive, tell him I'll give him $100 as I will need to put a new clutch in it (clutch is fine, just needed an adjustment), he says OK.......

It is a '91 Yota Camry, 167,000 on the clock, EVERYTHING works great! A/C still blows cold, etc.

As soon as I got it, I gave it a tuneup......ran MUCH better, cleaned the throttle body/intake manifold.....ran better still, upgraded grounds.....made the most improvement, and gave it an open element filter......not sure about this one yet as it may be decreasing the stellar gas mileage (38MPG!!!!!!!!!!). Next is new shocks.

Only other thing I did was tint the windows.
Total invested so far, including buy price........$373!!!!!!!!

I'm all giddy about having a car I don't REALLY have to baby everywhere I go, no more crawling in and out of driveways, no more worrying about assholes keying it, or dings. You won't find me modding it, it will look this way forever.....

I used to own a 1984 Supra with the Inline Non-Turbo 6.

It was Toyota Gold..

I hated that F'N car. lol

I ended up selling it for $100.

We have two toyotas, and they run forever and dont break down ever. All you do is keep the gas tank filled and change the oil once in awhile, that's it.
Drive it like you stole it, and work on it like you married it.

It's just like my beater! but your's actually looks cleaner.

92 ford escort. 167,000 miles. Car was free, threw $280 in repairs/new tires, and another $250 to get it back from the tow yard.

Gotta love having a car you don't gotta worry about as well.

Yup, I'm pretty lucky, I have plans to make it run better (runs outstanding, but, I think I can make it better..LOL).

I am taking all of this comming weekend to make it look better. I'm going to wetsand and polish the car, respray the wheels silver, and do an extreme detail on the interior......though it is good, I think I can make it better.....

I'll keep you guys posted.

Man that's a hell of a deal Cris. That thing will run forever. We had a 78 Celica hatchback years ago that my cousin in Merced still drives. When my mom sold it to her it had over 290,000 on the clock.
as long as you change the timing belt.
I might be wrong but I think these cars have timing chains.
