Not sure whose quote this is, but there is a replacement for displacement: TECHNOLOGY. I'm not so big on pushrod engines. Yes. They're muscle-car-ish.
They also held back muscle cars for way too long because of "tradition", while little 4-bangers started putting down the same insane amounts of power. Now you'll notice almost all of the really quick V-8s use OHC technology. And probably weigh less than the LS1, with the ability to rev much higher.
I mean, it's probably cheaper to buy an LS1 than to mod an EVO motor to that power level. But there's a reason LS1 motors are so cheap. But bear in mind that an EVO engine is almost there anyway. And the evo will be quicker and get better gas mileage when you get it to that power level.
