02's and UDP

Post by SlvrACR » Sun Jun 24, 2007 8:04 pm

My brother just got a 02 RT and he wants to put on the Unortho UDP. I heard all the people that say the engine light comes on after 5k. What im asking is the 02 owners would you do this mod again or does the engine light piss you off and its not worth it?

Depends, if the car is only going to see bolt ons then it might be worth it IF you like to drive slow on the highway. Its a little under 5k, not sure where but if you go over 85~ on the highway it trips and that gets annoying. I forgot the exact mph but its like clockwork when you hit it if you are in a hurry or on a empty highway. Its not the light thats annoying, its the ringing. But if the car is only seeing bolt ons then its a worth while mod, good bang for the buck. Anymore than bolt ons it wont really be worth it for the annoying factor.

If I had to go back I wouldn't have done it (however I am turbo now and wont feel the difference with an udp on or off). The car is more responsive with it on, the gains are minimal but the car does rev up a little faster.

I had a udp with a intake and exhaust and it was nice addition. If you are really worried about it annoying you can always pull the bulb, but then you wont have a cel.

I use the CEL on my 02 as a warning to get my foot out of the throttle
Definately a worthwhile investment on a N/A motor...

yea same here.. once it really starts blinking, i usually just back off a bit.. since hes really not going to be over 5000rpm on a regular basis(or at least while D.D-ing the car) my car will only flash the cel at 5000+ so you shouldn't have much to worry about.. not that annoying either.. since i'm always focused on the road ahead when driving hard.... and not the CEL...besides, its flashing due to a false condition anyways...

I have an unorth UDP, and here is my 0.02$...

I love it, second best mod to date (comp 400 #1, 60mm tb #3). Car responds very well to this mod, and I actually dyno tested with the CEL on (In memory as well) and I lost a whole .5hp, which to me, without further testing, means you do NOT loose any power when the CEL comes on.

Also, it only comes on and stays on IF you stay above the 4.5k rpm's for any amount of time, usually in 2nd gear and above.

Plus, the CEL goes away with a little time.

GET IT.

The car chimes, it blinks, it then the CEL stays on with the AF/X UDP. I have an '02 that wasn't a Magnum when the UDP was on, but now it has a Magnum It annoyed me enough to take it off. I traded it straight up for a 1GN MP UDP, that's going on my '95 ACR.

get a 2001 RT ecu.

or just try to trick your local dealership into flashing your "2001" RT with the latest 2001 code. ;)

you could also disconnect the knock sensor on the front of the engine, but as for side effects of doing so, IDK....

First off to SlvrACR, I'm sorry to hijack your thread, but I just have one quick question as I know nothing on this subject. Would the engine light and cel thingy come into play with a 2000? Thank you in advance! Again sorry for the intrusion of your thread.

I have an UDP on my 02 neon with just an intake and exhaust.

You will notice a difference.

When i go to 95mph the light comes on and then it goes off after slowing back down.

It stayed on once for a week or two and then went back off and never had it stay on again.

I would say its worth it if your looking for some extra power.

i always wondered if adding one or a series of resistors to the knock sensor would help this.

forgot to reply to your post.

"numbing" out your knock sensor could cause some other issues to your car. I have to research this a bit more.
