All I can say is AWESOME! I don't think most people would expect a neon with sirens and fire lights. Props for helping out your community

Yeah, some days they part like the Red Sea and other days people are bastards not paying attention.

If you're subscribing and watch the future videos, you'll notice that depending on the nature of the fire call, my driving habits change incredibly. I've gotten her going pretty good going to a call before - It was a report of a house fire and the first person on location was a police unit and reported that there were, in fact, occupants inside the structure with heavy smoke showing from the second floor. It was quite interesting and definitely gets the adrenaline pumping.

No no no. I'm in "normal" clothes until I get to the station (the ending location in the video) and then I jump out, go throw all my gear on, and hop into either the Ladder truck, the Engine, or whatever vehicle is designated to respond first. I definitely enter fires. That's the fun part.

So you have to drive all the way to the station, and then change, and then drive all the way to the fire? Do they burn pretty slowly then?

Yep. And, well, in our city, there's a full-time station (downtown, Station 1) which has paid guys on the clock 24 hours a day. In addition, we have two other stations (one on the east side, Station 3, and one on the west side, my station, Station 4) that are paid-per-call stations. It works like a volunteer department, but when we respond to calls we get paid by the hour... Something like $8.50 / hour.

If there's any type of structural fire or any call of a possible structure fire, all three stations get called out. Also if there's any kind of odor investigation inside of a structure, all three stations respond - Whether it's a natural gas odor or a smell of smoke. Any other calls, the station that's in the district of the call, is called out to respond.

So if there's a house fire, the paid guys are most likely to arrive first on scene and they provide the initial search and rescue and the attack on the fire. Usually within 4 or 5 minutes, we're rolling up on the call, catch the hydrant and supply water to the tthem since at this point, they're fairly close to emptying their 1,000 gallons of water.

How do you like Paid Per Call? My Fiance is applying to do that at a department as an EMT.

It's better than volunteer! I can't complain. I love firefighting and I'd still do it if I didn't get paid, so it's almost like a bonus check every 3 months.

Only 8.50 for such a dangerous job? You deserve more than that for putting your life at risk for others.

Public servants almost never get paid what they deserve. But most of them are doing it for the love of helping others, not the money. I'm sure a lot do it for the love of the adrenaline rush, too LOL.

Cool video! I would really be surprised to pull over at the sound of a siren and see a Neon zoom by! :gears:

I definitely love everything about the 'job...' Especially racing to the station when everybody clears the path for the Dodge Neon. :D The most stubborn things I run into on the way to the station are the tractor trailers and the little white puffs and knuckles driving.

after being a police officer in NC for 6 years (resigned in feb cuz wife got job in PA... dammit) and seeing how people react to a marked police car behind them with the lights and siren... honestly your video scares me... i guess from a liability perspective. if you crash who is responsible the FD or are you? Dont take it as im knocking you because you handled the vehicle proplerly im just whew i dunno POV's running with sirens blowing intersections and such... that scares me!

how does that work anyway do you have to go through persuit driving classes and or have your vehicle i dunno certified? to run lights and sirens like that? In NC you can only run red lights and thats it unless your a chief then you can run a siren. I know when i was a vol ff our dept was even more strict they said only interior lights and no big ole "redneck light bars" strobes look better anyway

lol i got lots of pd videos from my ICC... dont know if i can upload them though!

Yea, I really see no reason to have the siren going the entire time. If I was a resident in your area that would drive me freaking crazy...there's no reason for it. A tap on the siren when going through a red light or when someone refuses to get out of your way is more than enough. All of my cops respond to calls in the manner I just specified.
Life should NOT be a journey to the grave with the intention of arriving safely in an attractive and well-preserved body, but rather to skid in sideways, beer in one hand, Jack Daniels in the other, body thoroughly worn out and bleeding, while screaming "Holy s*** what a ride!"

no he was right running his emergency equipment the entire way. because the first thing that will come up say in an accident trial when grandma pulls out in front of him will be... was all of your emergency equipment activated? and expecially there as well in my police car the camera doesnt lie. say for instance... In NC a motorist is only required to give right of way to emergency vehicles when those vehicles are driving with light AND siren. so basically in a legal stand point you have no obligation to let a police car or fire truck go by if they just have the lights on and no siren. naturally laws differ from state to state, and you would be a penis if you didnt let them go by but thats another issue.

on the whole i didnt see anything wrong with how he responded *might have come to more complete stops before i cleared intersections though* but just the liability of jonny jackass pulling out in front of me while im blazing down the road in my own personal car with all that stuff on just scares me.
