Post by 05srt4clone » Wed May 11, 2005 6:55 am

So I hooked up my DVD player and LCD screen through a non-wireless fm modualtor and I get a whinig noise. Any of you have had any problems with this?

There are several filters you can get to filter out noise. Most can be found at Radio Shack or any major Audio stores. They have some for power if the modulator uses any or Low and High input filters. Low being the usual White and Red and High for speaker cables.. Make sure none of the power cables a running next to the audio / video cables.

I have the Low inputs hooked up to my DVD Player. And the antenna hook-ups installed through my factory stereo. The power wire comes to the FM Modulator to power it. Should I try to move it away some or what?

A few quick questions... Do you only get the whine when the car is on.... Does the pitch of the whine get higher as you add gas to the car. Do you hear a clicking noise when you step on the break or turn on your turn signal.. Is it just the DVD that is doing it.. What else do you have hooked up to the deck and are you using the stock deck?

Yes the whining noise only happens when the car is on and gets louder as the rpms go up. No clicking noise. Nothing else hooked up and it is a stock deck. I had the same set-up in my truck and it did it also and that was with an aftermarket stereo.

Almost seems as though it could be a bad or 'not-as-good-as-you-COULD-get' ground connection.

I was about to say that.. Check all your grounds and make sure they are all good grounds. If that doesn't help move the FM modulator away from any power wires. Other than that I sudgest getting a ground loop modulator from Radio Shack. if that doesn't work, get a different FM modulator, yours might suck to say the least... Most of the time it does it when you use the stock radio since you are going form low to high input connections but if you have a good after market radio it should of came with a power fileter built in. I know that crutchfield "hope I spelled that right" has a filter you can instal in line from the ALT to the battery. I would do that as a last resort. 10$ or so it costs, let me look really quick... Found it...

Well when I had it in the truck it was grounded to the ground post on the amp. On my Neon it is on the seat bolt. Maybe I should just buy that deal from Crutchfield.

Ah, my mistake. Didn't calculate 'recently' as in like a few hours.

Yeah I didn't like the stationary TV and the DVD player just laying on the floorboard. So $75 for the DVD Player and a 12" JL for the screen.

Sounds good to me.
