How to become a moderator?
Is there a test that needs to be passed, or a certain amount of online time, experiance, etc...? I'm on here everyday for the most part, and would love to help out.

Hahahaha! Actually, it's nice to know of people that would actually be interested and willing to dedicate a decent hunk of time to being a moderator, however, there aren't any tests. There are many things that we look at - Some of them being how you handle yourselves in an argument, your professionalism, time spent on the site, and overall appearance of yourself in your posts and overall on the forums.
It's possible that after the meet in Carlisle, we may be looking at adding another moderator or two to replace the ones we've lost recently, but there are no plans etched in stone. There are up-sides and down-sides to having a small number of people on the administration and moderating staff and it will be up to the staff as a whole to decide on how many moderators we add and who it will be.

Like Mike said above, there really isn't any sort of test. It's more like he said, how someone handles them self on the forum. If they're getting into arguments or provoking arguments I tend to overlook that person being that will most likely cause a problem down the road trying to be an impartial person when it comes to stepping in to end an argument. If someone is argumentative when they're a moderator and have the ability to lock a thread that they're arguing in, it tends to appear to a lot of people that when they lock the thread or delete it which typically we try very hard not to do, it usually comes off as that person using their powers to get the last word in. I've seen it happen on here before with a previous administrator when 2GN first started.
I look for the willingness to help people. If someone keeps telling everyone to search and are being rude, I look past that person myself as they aren't ones that are willing to help other members or the forum itself. Yes it can be annoying but in the the end that tends to not help the forum out much as later on when people are trying to search for the same information, they'll only find ten million threads all telling someone else to search. Things like that...
It's things like that which I look for. There are a lot of other things but those are just some examples. What the rest of the staff looks for I don't know but thats just me. Making someone a part of the staff isn't completely my decision. Yes I guess I do have the final decision but it still goes up before the rest of the staff and we decision who we feel as a group would best suit the position. Then we just hope we made a good decision...
I also want to make sure that the person understands that being a moderator isn't everything it's cracked up to be as you will probably have to do things you don't want to do but have to since it's in the best interest of the forum. It's not a job where you will be liked by everyone and will probably make enemies depending on situations that arise. I've had to do things I didn't want to do like ban some friends from here because of problems they caused on the forum that technically did violate the rules but did I want to do it since they were my friend... obviously no. However, I'm the administrator so I had to as it was in the best interest of the forum in general. The person has to realize they take the good with the bad and that as a moderator you loose some ability to speak your mind in order to keep a more unbiased opinion towards situations that could arise. The person has to have the ability to speak up, have a backbone and warn someone if something should come up that needs addressing. However, they don't need to act like Barney Fife and warn people left and right whenever they cross the line if that makes sense.
Like I said, things like that.. nothing really specific but in general, above are a few things I try to look for...
After Carlisle is over we will be discussing more about if we need more and if so, who... Just have to wait a few weeks once Carlisle is over when some of us aren't rushed for time anymore trying to get ready for it and prepare
