not happy / pissed

Post by 2003silverneonsxt » Tue Jul 03, 2007 1:31 pm

i work loading milk trucks at work, and we were working on a trailer load (40 foot trailer) and we got to the end only to realize we need room for 20 stacks more of product and only had room for 6.

so davey who was checkin stuff (i do the loading) came over to help, and we started pulling the stacks of milk out from down the center of the trailer so we can throw the milk up higher (7 high instead of 6) to make room for the extra stacks..

well davey went to pull a stack of gallons (gallons weigh ~~ 200-225 lbs, and 1/2 gallons weigh ~~250-300lbs) and the bottom milk crate was too big so the stack start to fall.. i was standing right next to davey and went to reach to stop the stack and help him, and right as i went to grab it, the stack fell...

the stack fell right into my knee area, forcing my knee past where it should go , no my knee is swollen like a soft ball, i can barely walk up and down stairs, it hurts like a mofo ....

and the worse news..

i have to work again tonight 3pm to 1:30am...

No, seriously man. Don't go in. You could screw things up even worse, and you do NOT want to do that.

I am just finishing up my workers comp case, I know it's tough to "puss out" but, DO NOT GO IN TO WORK!! Contact your supervisor, and tell him you need to go see a doctor, or just go in to the ER, and tell them that you got hurt at work, they have the proper documentation to charge your employer instead of you.

Once again, DON'T GO IN!!

Why would you go to work if it hurts too bad?

Once you go back to work after an accident on the clock, you're putting yourself in a very bad position for a workmans comp claim or lawsuit. Your company has insurance for situations exactly like this. I honestly hope you filled out paperwork documenting the accident and made personal copies for yourself (with your supervisor's signature). I don't know your employer, but there are many out there that will smile to your face while filling out the proper paperwork, then promptly throw it in a shredder once you say you're not going to the hospital and plan to come back to work. For future referance, going immediately to the hospital prevents your employer from having any way to say that it didn't happen at work. If you're going back to work because you can't afford to take time off, workmans comp covers all lost time due to on-the-job injuries, and it usually pays fairly quickly once the paperwork's in.

DO NOT WORK!!!!!!!

The best thing to do would be to have gone directly to the hospital by way of ambulance at the time it happened, but since that's a moot point, you really should go to the ER ASAP. Knees are not to be messed with. what may only be uncomfortable today may be unbearably painful in a week or so when the swelling goes down and whatever may possibly be torn is no longer supported by the swollen tissue surrounding it.

yeah get to the ER ASAP.

I've had to file workers comp claims 3 times over the past 7 years. You need to get checked out and you need to not go back to work.

Dude that sucks about your knee.

I wouldn't go to work.

Go to the docs and check it out.

Its better to not mess it up anymore than it is.

Seriously, why would you risk permanantly damaging your knee by going into work? Don't risk it man, just get it checked by a doctor. I know a lot of places make you take a drug test after an accident but whether or not that is a factor it's not worth your mobility!
If your Super already knows about it and reported it and all just go to the Doctor. Take care of self.

Good luck!

Good stuff, glad to hear no torn tendons or anything. My left knee is seriously fucked from catching for 11 years, riding sportbikes for 6 years, and figuring out how to fit myself in extremely tight spaces in mechanical rooms at work (it sucks being the smallest guy on the crew, trust me), so I know how bad knee injuries can be. I'm glad you got it checked out, and your job is cooperating with you. take it real easy, but make sure to exercise the joint regularly so it heals properly, and please please please don't over-compensate too much, as that can hurt the other knee too. (i'm sure the doctor told you all this lol) When's your check-up scheduled for?
