Trunk size. Will my sub enclosure fit?

Post by deep1ca » Tue Jul 03, 2007 10:17 pm

Hi guys.

I was wondering if anyone knew the measurements of a 2gen trunk.
(im not lazy, if I had my neon id measure it myself)

I just won a enclosure on ebay that measures 16-1/4" H x 34-1/8" W x 17-1/8" D and now after winning im wondering if it would even fit.

Anybody know? Thanks.

should fit, but its going to take some work...

i made a ported enclosure fit in my neon trunk that was 14" h x 36" wide x 16" d.

you just got to put in one corner first, then have someone on the other side & have them left up slightly while you push it in....

that sounsa about the size of my dual 12" polk enclosure. it fit, but wasn't exactly easy to get in there. if you can't get it to fit through the trunk opening. take off the rear seatback and put it in through there.

jesus christ that's a huge ass box for what looks like 1 sub... was it made to specs for the particular sub that you put in it, or is it just a generic box???

what kind of sub are you using in that box? it must be pretty powerfull. my dual 12" box isn't even that big.

size of the box has nothing to do with power handling.....

i've built many boxes(one even as big as his), for subs that dont require much power at all......for instance, the box i built, same size as his, was for a single autotek mean machine(back in the day, not the POS they make now).....500W rms.....

i'm runnin a single 10" in a 1.5cubic box...subs only taking 200w...

the size and tuning of the box is whats going to determine how the woofer performs...the bigger the box, the louder its gonna be, and when you tune it to a low frequency, like 34hz for example, it REALLY brings out the low notes...a LOT.

I tune every box i build to 35hz, because thats the optimum tuning frequency for a good ported box in terms of overall frequency response, but that also does depend on the woofer you're using. most subs do very well with a 35hz port....but your subs designed strictly for SPL competition will do better with a higher frequency....

anyways, done rambling on now...just wanted to share some info

when i first had the box it had a RE Audio HC12 in it that had about 1400watts going to it....right now i have a t3 audio T.S.S in it thats getting 1100watts... sooner or later im going to upgrade my sub to that takes 2000watts RMS daily..

cool guys. thanks for the info. i've never built a ported box before, only sealed fiberglass ones, and the setup i have right now was pre built. it's the polk db212 loaded enclosure. i have to say. it's 10x louder than my old sealed enclosure with 2 12's porting definately makes a huge difference.

I put it in today and it does not properly fit, wouldn't fit at all at first. I had to remove the bottom trunk latch thing to get it in, even then it only fits upside down facing forward or facing up.

And it fkn rattles the hell outta the car, need to get some dynamat in there.

i had to take my back seat out and slide the box into the trunk from there. the middle seat belt got in the way, but other than that, it went alot smoother than forcing it through the trunk opening. you might want to try that. and dynamat would definately make it sound better, my trunk rattles like crazy also.

I was thinkin about putting it in through that way but just didn't have the tools on hand to take the seats out. Try it that way later.

And yeah the seatbelt box is a real pain, got a few nice scratches on the polk enclousure from it. :cussing:
